The Elegear Cooling Cervical Pillow

One massive bugbear I have had in recent months is finding a decent pillow. I’ve never really been one of those pillows, tending to have one pillow, usually folded in half as I’m a side sleeper. However, recently, I have been really struggling with neck pain and migraines thanks to the onset of perimenopause.

I recently found some memory foam pillows in an Amazon returns store. Having heard they’re good for neck pain, I persevered for a few weeks, but I woke up with ungodly neck pain and headaches. I presumed I just needed to break them in, but it wasn’t happening, and I wasn’t getting a good night’s sleep.

Plus, with the weather starting to warm up and my night sweats (again, due to perimenopause), I need a pillow that won’t make me sweat like my current ones did.

Then, like magic, I got an email to ask if I would be interested in reviewing the Elegear Cooling Cervical Pillow (non affiliate link). Could it be that everything I needed was actually viable in one pillow and one pillow alone? I wasn’t sure, but I was ready to find out sooner rather than later.

The Elegear Cooling Cervical Pillow is a contoured ergonomic memory foam pillow that comes with a specially shaped cover for you to use, as it won’t fit easily into standard pillowcases.

It is 60x36x14 cm and is designed to offer support regardless of how you sleep, whether front-side or back-sleeper. The cervical pillow is cleverly shaped to provide support across the whole pillow to accommodate various sleeping positions while keeping your head and neck in neutral alignment.

It is made from 6D high-density foam with moulding technology, allowing you to sink into the pillow without losing support. You can even fit your arms into the pillow comfortably if you sleep with your arms around or above your head, too (personally, I sleep with my hands under my chin or under my cheek when sleeping on the side, so this works well for me).

The pillow case is made from breathable fabrics that offer a cooling feel to prevent heat buildup. It is also machine washable, so you can remove it and wash it without a problem.

I was really excited to put this to the test, as I had high hopes for it. However, I was dubious of the memory foam due to my bad experiences with my current memory foam pillows. But as soon as I took it out of the box, I realised it was instantly much softer, which was pleasing to see.

You need to leave the pillow to fully decompress from being in the box before sleeping on it so it can find its correct shape and offer you the benefits. A few reviews on Amazon mention a chemical smell, but I have no sense of smell, so I can’t comment on this. I have to say, I will never ever ever go back to using a conventional pillow again. Ever!

From the very first night, the cooling pillow was, as promised, incredibly cool to sleep on, and I, as a 5-foot-1 female, fit perfectly into the grooves no matter what way I twisted and turned or how I chose to sleep. I have been sleeping on it for a few weeks now, and my morning headaches are almost gone. My neck doesn’t seem as painful, and my “hotspots” are almost gone, thanks to my head and neck being aligned better.

Over the past few weeks, the pillow has remained just as supportive as it did the first night I used it, and that icky, sweaty buildup on my neck, thanks to the peri-menopause sweat thing overnight, is completely gone! This alone is well worth investing in the pillow.

The cooling benefits of this pillow are that it is cool to the touch and to lie on; however, as your body warms the space, it will warm with you, meaning to fully benefit, you will need to readjust your head, but once you sleep, you likely won’t notice this. My only issue is there is a little button in the middle of the pillowcase that I sometimes have squished against my face due to tossing and turning in the night, but it’s a minor niggle.

The cover washes well; however, I have found that it does snag easily, and I have caught it a few times with my nails (and my current foster dog has, too, with hers). So, for me, I would like the opportunity for a spare pillow case or for it to come with another one for this reason, as it can make the pillow look a bit tatty. But it doesn’t detract from its function or comfort, just appearance.

Would I recommend it? Yes, I am actually considering buying a second one (at the time of publication, there is a 20% voucher you can use at checkout to reduce the cost of the pillow).

If you struggle with a sore neck when waking up, you can’t get comfortable, or you, too, like me, have the dreaded menopause or perimenopause night sweats, or you just prefer a cooler pillow, this is the pillow for you. The Elegear Cervical Cooling Pillow is £39.99 on Amazon (affiliate link). As mentioned, there is a 20% voucher for you to use at checkout (this offer is subject to change or withdrawal and is correct at the time of publishing.
