Do Cooling Duvets Work? Reviewing the Luxear Cooling Duvet
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am always hot. I really bemoan the fact that I feel like my core body temperature is hotter than the sun. I can often be seen running around in winter with no coat on or a thin jacket. This is partly due to my fibromyalgia and partly due to the onset of perimenopause.
I am hot all the time. And when summer rolls around, even a small increase in temperatures can lead to some really uncomfortable times for me. I have about four fans around my house. The windows will always be open, and if they are not, the back door is open. I wish for cooler days and strong breezes when it gets hot. And the hot nights, when I am trying to sleep, are much, much worse.
I currently have 2 cooling blankets and a cooling pillow. While these are great, I do not feel comfortable sleeping with the blankets, the pillow, however, is amazing and has eliminated a lot of pain in my neck and reduced the pain in the trigger points at the top of my spine. However, they both can bring relief when I get too hot at night or even during the day. As a bonus, the dogs love the cooling blankets and prefer them over doggy cooling mats when they get hot.
However, when I received a cooling duvet to sleep with, I wondered if this could be better than the cooling blankets I already have for the bed and be a more permanent option for the summer. So it’s safe to say I was keen to try the Luxear Cooling Duvet and see if it really can keep you cool.

Thankfully for me, the blanket arrived just as we got an early heatwave in the UK. I had my fan out already, perfectly positioned next to my bed, and I have spares around the house for those times when one fan isn’t enough.
I sleep with coverless duvets already, as they’re thinner, can be layered in the winter, and are easier to keep clean. So, when it came time to swap the blankets, there wouldn’t be much difference in terms of not having a cover on the duvet.

Do Cooling Duvets Work? My Thoughts on the Luxear Cooling Duvet
I’ve been sleeping with the cooling blanket for a few weeks now, and honestly, I love it. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel sleeping with it as my main form of bedding, but I’ll explain.
The blanket is indeed lightweight. However, when it drapes over you, it has a weighted blanket feel. It feels like someone has poured the blanket over you, and it’s an odd sensation at first, but it didn’t take me long to get used to it, and I actually like it.
I have the queen-size cooling duvet and it’s just big enough for one person. The blanket cools you down really quickly, and I even felt myself shivering while under it, which is amazing for me to actually feel cool in bed.
As you lie under it, I’m not sure if you get used to how cool it is or if your body heats up certain parts but the effects lessen. I think it’s the latter, as when I move, I instantly get that cooling feeling again from parts not directly touching my body.
However, I cannot sleep with it alone all night due to how cool it actually makes me. Currently, I still have my fan on, and I put my coverless duvet over the top of the cooling blanket. I know this sounds like a lot, but my coverless duvet is less than a 4 tog, so it’s extremely thin. This way, I get the comfort of my normal duvet but the cooling of the Luxear Cooling Duvet underneath. I know it sounds odd. I love the feel of the cool blanket, and it really does help, but I can’t sleep a full night with it, and I struggle to get to sleep using it alone. So, for now, this works for me. And if it does get too hot, then I will try using it again alone.
Washing and drying the blanket is easy. I wash it at a cool 30 degrees and air dry it, and so far, so good—there is no bobbling, damage, or reduction in quality or performance from being machine washed at all.
The blanket is fully reversible, and you can get the cooling effects from both sides.
