My First Hot Stone Massage at Holistic Healing and Beauty, Wallasey
Tucked away at the back of Bohemian Hair and Beauty on Brighton Street, Wallasey is a little room. Through the salon and away from the hairdryers and chatter is an unassuming door that shows no indication of what lies behind it. Olivia works in the salon, but I’ve never ventured past the salon front, where the majority of the clientele stay for their hair and nail appointments.
But for the small few who do visit to go beyond the salon chairs and wash basins, it is a small slice of heaven. Heaven I didn’t know existed.
It’s not a big room, nor is it decked out in excessive decor; it’s a room with little inside it except a bed and some small units of essentials, and it’s home to Jenna from Holistic Healing and Beauty. It’s a room that seems perfect for a midday nap to break up work, but that’s not its purpose, although I don’t doubt for one second it’s seen its fair share of naps. This is where Jenna welcomes her clients and delivers her massages and treatments.

Full disclosure, I was gifted this massage, but not for a review, for looking after Jenna’s dog, Willow, while she was on holiday, because I cannot resist a bulldog, and Willow is an absolute babe (I am kidnapping her for a sleepover soon because I miss her!).
Holistic Healing and Beauty Wallasey
Jenna is the kind of person who makes you feel at ease about being in somewhat of a vulnerable position in a busy salon. It’s out of the way so that no staff or clients need to know you’re there or need to walk past, but it’s still in a salon, and while Olivia has seen me naked, it’s not something I make a habit of exposing others to (sorry Jenna).
She brings her calming presence and positive energy to deliver a range of treatments and services, from lymphatic facials to reiki crystals, hot stone massages, Wallasey (my massage of choice today), wood therapy, and more. It’s a one-stop shop for self-care and relaxation and a pick-and-mix for those wanting to banish stress and tension and get some much-needed TLC.
And there’s no rush, no checking the time for the next client, just serenity, calmness, and a welcoming space with a soothing yet haunting soundtrack that instantly puts you in the zone.
My Hot Stone Massage at Holistic Healing and Beauty, Wallasey
I was really curious about the hot stone massage. What does it entail? How hot exactly are the stones? And more importantly, would the table hold my weight (spoiler alert: it did).

Jenna started on my arms and legs before turning me over and working her magic on my back. The stones at first felt hot, like someone had put a hot pan right off the cooker onto my skin. But it wasn’t a burning heat, and after that first stone touched my skin, the heat was more of a welcome sensation than something more unpleasant.
Gliding across my skin with ease under Jenna’s expert guidance, the stones worked into my skin and muscles to release the tension, and slowly, part by part, I felt the tension melting away. First the right leg, then over to the left, both giving way to more relaxed muscles.
But the real thing was, would my notoriously dodgy shoulders, upper back, and neck respond to the magic that Jenna was delivering in this small room?
Honestly, before she even made it that far up my body, I was pretty much being lulled into my first nap of the day. But the movement of the stones in some of the sore parts of my body, thanks to fibro, roused me. It wasn’t painful like I expected and had experienced from a deep tissue massage a few years ago, it was more like a pressure, a coaxing of what lay beneath the skin, and a gentle encouragement to let go of what it was holding and relax.
And soon enough, my arms began to tingle as I felt my muscles turning from stiff wooden boards to jelly. It wasn’t like a rush of euphoria, but more like an accumulation of relaxation building up over time. A satisfying sigh, if you will.
And as I focused on the music permeating the room around us, I found myself feeling much more relaxed than I had in the longest time. In fact, by the end of the session, I was ready to book again there and then. Take my money, take it now, before the dogs do!
