It’s no secret that I’m not in the best health I can be. Having suffered from a whole host of random and connected ailments for most of the year my bad diet and lifestyle have finally caught up with me. Regular readers and followers on my Facebook page will testify that I am constantly and permanently tired.
It’s not a recent thing though, I have always been like this! Never a morning person anyway, I seem to be getting worse with age but the struggle to get up, stay alert and feel refreshed has always been elusive for me. No matter how much sleep I have or how much rest I get I feel tired all the time. Throughout my teen years, my pre-baby 20’s, my early 30’s gym loving period and up to now, as my unhealthy late 30’s stage of life.
Forth with Life Home Testing
When Forth with Life got in touch to see if I would like to try out one of their home testing kits, I immediately knew which test I wanted to go for. I had to use this opportunity to find out if there is another underlying issue of my tiredness other than me being plain old lazy. I was interested to see what I would find out and I was totally convinced it would come back telling nothing was wrong and I need a complete lifestyle overhaul. But first, let’s find out a little bit more about Forth and what exactly they do.
Forth with Life offer at private blood testing with an at home finger prick kit. All you need to do is to choose the right kit for your needs. Then follow the really simple instructions, fill your sample details in and send it back. Your results are available to view online within a few days. So whatever it is you need to know or test for, you really don’t have a long wait.
The service is available on a subscription basis.
When I received my kit in the post it all looked very straightforward. How hard could it be right? Prick your finger, collect the sample and send it back. I’m going to say this now to get it over with. But it appears I’m not a bleeder! I had trouble collecting enough blood to complete my sample and despite using all the lancets provided, and 2 tests, I still couldn’t do it. This doesn’t stem from any squeamishness towards blood. I have no issue with that all. It just seems my body doesn’t naturally bleed a lot.
You are provided with tips to help you maximise blood flow such as wash and clean hands in warm soapy water, move around or take the sample after exercising. Use the side of your finger as opposed to the tip.
After my first attempt, the results were ready within days. Much quicker than I expected if I am honest and I was super curious to see if they managed to get any results from the meagre sample I managed to provide. You do need to post it the same day to get the best results. Preferably on a day where the post is collected and the lab is open. So Monday to Thursday are your ideal days to get and send off your sample.
They did manage to get a few results. Not many but something was better than nothing. They managed to check my vitamin D levels, ferritin and my metabolism. I was pleased to see all was normal for my thyroid and vitamin D levels. My ferritin levels showed slightly elevated. To stop me spiralling into the wormhole that is Dr Google, all results come with an explanation as to why the results could be outside of the normal range. For my ferritin levels, it was suggested the cause could be due to an inflammation. As it was sitting in the border high category, and I have been fighting off a cold type virus, I’m going to put two and two together and suggest this was possibly the cause.
I was fairly disappointed that I couldn’t have any other markers tested but I completely understand and know that was down to the lack of sample provided for testing and in no way and reflection on the service. This is something I found really interesting. Having been for many blood tests and not had them properly explained in the past, it was an eye-opener for me. To know what is happening inside my body and have it explained at the same time was really helpful.
I would imagine for people who are struggling to pin down symptoms or are hitting a brick wall in terms of having their symptoms understood and properly diagnosed, this service would be such a big help. Again for those looking to simply regain their health and improve how they live and feel this is such a benefit and great way to start out before you make any major life changes. But really there is so much benefit in just knowing your body and what is happening inside is such a benefit to everyone something like this is worth doing even just the once.
If you would like to try this service Forth with Life have subscriptions starting from £39 per kit.
