Name A Star with Star Name Registry Review and Competition

You may have noticed I don’t really talk about Olivia much these days. She still does the odd review, but she has asked to take a step away from the blog. It’s not what she wants right now and I respect her decision. But then we were offered the opportunity to review the name a star service from Star Name Registry. This came at the perfect time for Olivia, for something she is struggling with right now.

Star Name Registry.com have many different packages for their stars. With gift sets ranging from £14.99 to £64.99. The set we received was the Extra Bright Gift Set. So as well as the chance to name a star, we would also get the certificate framed. (RRP £57.97)

Name A Star Extra Bright Gift Set
  • Entry into the Registry
  • A4 Star Name Deed
  • The Sky Atlas star maps
  • Confirmation letter
  • Free Stellarium software download
  • Gift Explained Extra Bright Star
  • A4 Silver Certificate Frame with Deed
  • Wrapped in Light Blue Tissue Paper
  • Housed in a Silver Presentation Box
Choosing what to name our star….

Before Christmas Olivia’s grandad was diagnosed with lung cancer. The prognosis isn’t good and we were told to expect the worst. We never expected her to take it well. Who would? She was just 10 years old.

Olivia and her grandad are very close. For years now they have a had running joke. Each birthday and Christmas he buys her a Freddo. As she got older, she would get more than 1. If she had been naughty, he would have it himself. He does actually gift her Freddos regularly. It’s really cute and a lovely little private joke between the two of them. It also frequently induces many an eye roll from Olivia as she retells his antics when she comes home.

After discussing it with her dad, we decided to name a star after this injoke they both have. We wanted it to have a meaning, something special she could physically have to remember her grandad when the day comes. A place to think of him at and be special to them both.

Receiving the Name a Star Gift Set.

The gift set came beautifully packed in a silver box. I think it gave it a little something extra, perfect presentation for giving as a gift.

name a star silver gift box

Nestled in blue tissue paper inside the box sat the certificate adorned by 2 red roses. I would have been so impressed if I had received this personally as a gift. It just finishes it off nicely I think.

The extra information helped to pull it all together, Olivia loved reading about her star and finding out more about stars in general.

Olivia’s Forever Freddo.

name a star gift certificate showing star name and coordinates

As well as naming the star you also get to choose which constellation you would like it in. There are plenty to choose from. We went with the Phoenix constellation. It is classed as a remembrance one which is perfect. Once we pinned this down we named our Extra Bright Star Forever Freddo.

If you would like to leave a personal message, this can be printed on your certificate too. Like on ours above. “We may not always be here, but we can always be forever there” With this star being for Olivia and her grandad, I chose these words to remind her that even though they may not be together much longer, she can always think of him there. I really hope it helps to bring her some comfort in the years to come.

The sky atlas is a lovely addition to the set. For people like me who don’t know the difference between constellations, it’s really helpful and very informative too.

Verdict.

I was really pleased with the quality of the and presentation of the gift set as a whole. The service and ordering process was really easy. I have thought about naming a star in the past but never gotten around to it so I was really pleased to have the opportunity to review this beautiful gift set from Star Name Registry.com. One of my favourite things is being able to pinpoint the star online. For me, this helps to make it more real, actually being able to see it.

Olivia loves that a little piece of the universe is now hers forever and was thrilled (thank god) with our name choice.

Name A Star with Star Registry.com Competition.

The competition is for the enveloped version of the above-mentioned gift set with an RRP of £34.98. With this, you would get the certificate and the constellation map included only. The prize will be supplied by Star Name Registry and winners details will be passed over. The competition will run from 31/03/17 until 22/04/17.  Please enter all options correctly and incorrect entries will be void. The winner will be chosen within 5 days of the competition ending and has 28 days to acknowledge their win. After this, a new winner will be chosen. One Frazzled Mum is not responsible for prize fulfilment but will assist should any problems arise.

What a beautiful and thoughtful gift. It’s a fantastic idea and something with a lot of meaning. I remember when my grandad passed away my mum told me he’d gone to stars. If I felt lonely or wanted to talk to him I was to look for the biggest brightest star and I’d know he’d be looking down on me. As I child it meant so much but even as an adult seeing the brightest star in the sky still makes me smile #KCACOLS

Such a beautiful idea. And a wonderful way to commemorate Grandpa’s life. Hope he is coping as well as he can with the prognosis. Thoughts with you all.

I have thought about doing this in the past but never really felt like it would be authenticate. Or wondered if maybe other people might “own” my star too. This post has cleared all those worries up for me.

I think if I did win or buy a star I would name it after my nan Rose. Who we actually sadly lost to Lung cancer. She was the fountain of our youthful genes so I may name it “Beautiful Rose” in honour.
