Win A Set of 4 Coconut Bowls

As the world strives to become more ecologically friendly, we are constantly on the lookout for sustainable items we can use in our everyday lives. We need to reduce our waste and look at ways we can reduce waste especially disposable, throwaway items. With the war on plastic pushing ahead, it makes sense to look at all areas of our lives where we can implement change too.

So when I received a twin pack of coconut bowls with spoons, I was intrigued to see if these could be just as good as my ceramic bowls. I have to admit, I have never thought to look at this area of my house with the view to making it more eco-friendly. Have you?

The Vie Gourmet Coconut Bowls and spoons are reclaimed from Thailand and polished with coconut oil. The original shape of the coconut is kept and each bowl retains its unique characteristics and imperfections meaning each one is unique. Coconuts are durable meaning the bowls can be used time and time again and require only a gentle hand wash to keep them at their best.

As the coconuts used have been discarded, they are 100% natural and eco-friendly.

I was kindly sent a twin pack of coconut bowls as a thank you for running this competition and honestly, they were totally different to how I imagined they would be. They are highly polished on the outside and really lightweight too. One of my issues was how the inside would feel and would it be suitable for food or are they more for decoration.

I had a food review ongoing when the bowls arrived and I instantly used them for some soup. The bowls aren’t polished on the inside, but they are smooth. I was a little worried they wouldn’t clean up properly afterwards. But I had no issues at all. Not only did they look great in my pictures (see above) but they also washed well in warm soapy water too. As each bowl is unique, I found one of mine didn’t quite sit as flat as I am used to with standard bowls so if it was full this could have been tricky but it wasn’t an issue at all!

If you would like to add some coconut bowls to your dining collection, or even just to have on display make sure to enter my competition to win a 4 pack of coconut bowls with spoons.

Look at your food waste and see what you can do with it other than throwing it out. Can you invest in one of the discs that keeps food fresher for longer in the fridge? Can you eat food that you would normally throw out such as carrot peelings and broccoli stalks? .

Always recycle what you can and buy veg and fruit from a grocery store so there isn’t lots of packaging

Buy or make a fabric shopping bag or two which you can take with you anywhere you go so you don’t have to buy a plastic bag. Perfect for those ‘ I didn’t plan on buying anything’ moments.

Don’t waste food! Learn some dishes you can make with leftovers, and at least once a week challenge yourself to put together a complete meal using just the odds and ends in the fridge.

the most important are to only fill the kettle with as much water as you need, turn off lights in rooms you aren’t in, use LED bulbs as they use less electricity, and recycle everything you can x

Buy sustainably in the first place – and make sure there isn’t something you already own that you can reuse or repurpose, or borrow or buy second-hand.

I re-use ready meal containers over and over again. The ones with lids are really handy, especially for storing food in the fridge and freezer.

Changing your energy supplier to one that’s 100% renewable. Anyone can do it, switching is simple and hassle-free plus all the electricity you use when on a 100% renewable tariff is effectively zero carbon!

We buy lots of food and cleaning products in bulk, and then decant into storage jars that we re-use multiple times. Some of my glass storage jars are almost 40 years old, the only thing I’ve had to do is occasionally replace the rubber or silicone seal for the lid.
