Me and sleep! Well, what can I say? It’s a balance sometimes to get the right amount of sleep, but no matter how much I sleep, it is never enough! Is it an adult thing or my Fibro thing? I have no idea, but what I do know is that my pillows play a massive part in how easy it is for me to sleep. I have tried so many different ones in the past, from anti-snore pillows to eco-recycled pillows and more. But one I have never tried is a vegan down pillow.

Sleeping With A Vegan Down Pillow

Firstly, I want to say I chose this particular pillow as I am trying to be more conscious in selecting ethical products. While I am not committing to becoming fully vegan, I try to make different choices and cut down on my intake of meat products. I now only eat vegan sausages, and I am dairy free aside from my chocolate habit (Ie I don’t drink cows milk or eat dairy cheese), and I am partial to trying more vegan food choices and buying more ethically sourced clothing.

The pillow looks and feels really plump and quite firm to touch on first impressions. Lying down on the pillow doesn’t feel much different from a standard pillow, if not just a little bit squishier than my current pillows. I typically go for firmer options, and I have been told my bed is substantial to sleep on, but it supports me, and I find it comfortable. This brings us nicely into the fact that this Vegan Down Pillow is made using recycled plastic bottles.

Would the Vegan Down Pillow support my neck? I decided to give it a full two-week trial before writing my honest thoughts, so here goes!

The pillow is actually softer than I thought it was going to be. The support is soft to medium, but it felt firmer upon first opening it from the reusable bag. I was expecting it to be firm, and while it does feel quite firm, it is smooth to sleep on, and so far, it is retaining its shape really well. I have used pillows made with recycled materials in the past, and they tend to go lumpy quite quickly. So far, the vegan down pillow has kept its shape and remained quite plump and full. Each morning I just give it a quick plump up to put it back to shape, and it is ready to be slept on again.

Am I sleeping better with the pillow? Not really, but then I don’t think anything will make much of a difference. However, it is so much more comfortable than my previous pillows and has that quality that makes you just want to sink and totally relax. I am keeping everything crossed that this doesn’t change the more the pillow is slept on.

The pillow is made from a Smartdown 70/30 blend filling, and 100% sustainably sourced  280 thread cotton for the cover and is machine washable at 40°. I’ve not tried washing yet, but I will update this post when I do.
