You know I like to work out don’t you. I may not stick to it or be on my way to becoming an ig fitness guru but working out makes me feel good. If I feel good, I workout more and then I start to reap the rewards from efforts. But one thing I do struggle with is well fitted comfortable clothing when I’m working out. Something that looks good on my plus size curves yet does what I need it to and I don’t have to spend the whole workout rolling my bottoms back up or fixing my top. What I needed was some decent plus size active wear pieces to help me feel good as I worked out.
Plus Size Active Wear from DW Sports.
So when DW Sports got in touch to send me some items from their online store. I was curious, could they have what I have been looking for? Maybe.
I usually end up in thick winter joggers, my current pair is cropped but still thick. Why? Because they have a drawstring on the waist. My XL size tummy doesn’t work well with capris that are held up by the waistband alone. My curves get the better of them and down they roll exposing my ample flesh (TMI sorry!) for all to see. Not so pretty when I’m jumping around all crazy mid-Zumba class.
What Plus Size Active Wear Did I Pick?
I did, in fact, end up picking capris. Reebok Women’s Gymana Capri Pants currently on sale for £18. No tie waist but a much wider waistband than others I have seen. And a gorgeous deep purple racer back top. Reebok Women’s Workout Ready Activechill Slub Tank currently £16.99. Both items are from the Reebok range and the colours are gorgeous. I know, I know you can work out in anything you don’t have to look good but it sure helps me sometimes.
Size XL seemed most appropriate for me and ever cautious I even checked my measurements first! I sometimes find big name brands come up slightly smaller, do you? It’s safe to say not all brands accommodate for plus size active wear properly!
A deep plum for the top but my concern is that it is sheer! The cut isn’t flattering to my sports bra, but then again nothing much except a full covering t-shirt is really! However, I wasn’t going to be wearing it to the gym just in the house. Again, the thin material wouldn’t be an issue either for me but worth bearing in mind if you don’t want your bra and tummy on show at the gym. Another plus point is it isn’t too short either. I hate short tops I feel like I’m too exposed.
I love the design on the capris. Absolutely gorgeous and perfect to compliment the top. Very comfortable and not restrictive at all. Whilst I like the wide waistband at the top, I still don’t think it will stay put over my rolls when bouncing around.
A big thumbs up for the sizing too. I would definitely say they are a great fit and actually a bit generous with the sizing too. I possibly would have preferred one size up for the top, but seeing as I am looking to lose some weight, I’m sure it will fit in no time!
Putting them to the test.
I really can’t fault the top. It kept me cool, was comfortable and I barely noticed it doing anything whilst working out. I didn’t have to keep pulling it down or moving it as the top had twisted like I do with one of my other tops. I would go as far to say it is like a second skin when working out and I would happily wear it all the time.
Again the capris are really comfy. No stitching to irritate me, no clinging to me when I get hot and sweaty like my thicker joggers do. They also come to just the right length for me, below the knee, too. And sit quite high over my tummy for added peace of mind too.
Just to show you how the outfit looks on me and with a 1-week difference and approx 9lb weight loss between both pictures. Apologies for the dodgy mirror selfie! (before on the left)
I did put them to the bounce test. Not too vigorous because of my back problems. But a Body Coach beginners HIIT workout. They didn’t pass the roll down test but I never expected them too. It’s to be expected with my body shape. That being said though, the waistband only seems to roll over in half. They don’t start feeling like they are falling down at all. Just the shape of my tummy forces it to fold over but then they do actually stay. So whilst not a complete success in staying up, they are the best no tie waistband capris I have found so far. And from me, that’s a massive plus for plus size active wear. After all who wants to spend the whole workout hitching your bottoms back up!
