Finding Our Roar with FurReal Roarin’ Tyler the Playful Tiger

I really don’t need to tell you how much we love interactive toys, do I? It goes without saying that the FurReal Roarin’ Tyler the Playful Tiger arrived from Hasbro he was literally mobbed! Front of the queue was my 12-year-old niece who in her own words “wants a real-life tiger as a pet” Tyler will absolutely, without a doubt be put through his paces with the kids and should he live up to the hype, very well loved!

Overview

With over 100 sound and motion combinations, Tyler is full of fun always ready to play. Roar at him, and he will playfully roar back at you. He comes with his favourite toy so you can play with him and he will respond to you. Tyler’s soft fur and moveable back legs make him perfect for playing and hugging.

Review

Initial thoughts? Super cute and when out of the box, a lot smaller than he looks which is a good thing. Perfect size for cuddling if you ask me. Tyler’s fur is so soft and snuggly too and his legs are moveable so you can have him being held or standing.

I wasn’t too sure what to expect when it came to how he sounds, but I love the playful tone of his growls which are quite soft and not at all scary which is great for younger kids. I think the sounds on toys like this are really important and they have definitely gotten this right with Tyler I think.

Tyler also comes with his favourite toy which is a little rubber chicken. My niece was a bit alarmed exclaiming “he eats the chick” but he doesn’t. He holds it in his mouth plays with it like a dog plays with a chew toy. Ever the dramatic! But he does interact with you when you growl at him and plays with you. I do like my interactive toys to interact with the kids as they play. with Tyler reacting to sounds, it really does feel like he is interacting with you as you play.

Unlike other interactive toys we have reviewed, Tyler just roars and growls. There is no speaking involved like Chatty Charlie whose collar translated his barks. Tyler is a tiger and his sounds and actions do mimic that.

Verdict

In a word AMAZING! That is the verdict of Olivia and 2 of her cousins. They all loved him. His fur is so soft and he really is so cuddly. I found his roar to be so cute and on the playful side and my 4-year-old niece wasn’t scared at all in the slightest. All the girls loved that he interacts with them when they roar but you do have to be really loud for him to roar back at you though. Tyler does mimic going to sleep. He closes his eyes and snores however he doesn’t stay asleep for long and pretty quickly he is wide awake again and ready to play.

Also, he has the cutest sneezes too! One thing we did notice, as you will see in our little video below, that Tyler is actually supposed to hold his toy chick n his mouth. I told the girls I thought he wasn’t meant to as you will see me trying to get him to hold it but I can’t. The girls also try and are adamant he is supposed to grab it with his mouth. We as of yet haven’t managed to make him do it but they are right and he is supposed to do that.

All in all, we absolutely love Tyler and for an interactive toy like this, he really is up there with some of the best we have seen.

  1. We have never been able to get Tyler to respond to his chicken. my 5 yo daughter got him from her nonnie for christmas 2017. he doesn’t react to his squeaks. very disappointing on that part. it would be nice to know the 100 things he does b/c he only repeats the few sounds he does. i did tell him to growl softly and then shhh’d him, and he actually growled softly.

    1. I’m sorry to hear that, we still do have issues with the interaction with the chicken, it’s not great. With regards to the sounds we do find the more we play and the longer we play he does make sounds and noises and becomes more interactive x

  2. Great review, and I love the photos. Looks like this might be popular on Christmas lists this year! Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested
