One thing I have been looking at for a while is cooling blankets. I get very hot when I am asleep (except for daytime naps when I am freezing randomly), and as such, typically, come May/June, I put my duvet away and sleep with sheets only.

However, I am not at the point where I want to sleep without a blanket, and sometimes it is nice just to have one, regardless of the temperature. This is where the Nitowolf Bamboo Cooling Blanket comes into play.

The Nitowolf Cooling Blanket is made from specific Japanese Q-max cooling fibres that are proven to cool you down while using the blanket. With one side of cooling fibres and one side of bamboo, not only is it cooling, it is designed with comfort in mind so you can relax under the blanket whatever the weather.

The blanket measures 79in by 59 in, meaning it is the perfect size for one person, easily transportable and machine washable, which is vitally important.

The blanket works via the heat-dissipating fibres used to make the blanket, providing a unique cooling effect. And, unlike cooling pet products, you do not need to put them in the fridge or freezer before use to get the cooling effect.

Do Cooling Blankets Work?

This is something that I have pondered in recent years and the sole reason for me not buying one. Especially as I am 100% sure I am entering peri-menopause (those hot flushes!) so when I was asked to review a cooling blanket, my curiosity got the better of me.

Hopefully, the good old British weather would provide me with all four seasons in one week to allow me to put the blanket through its paces while simultaneously trying not to allow it to become the sole property of Tegan – The Beagle Blanket Thief!

My Nitowolf Bamboo Cooling Blanket Review

On first impression upon taking the blanket out of the wrapper, it was super cool to the touch. I did wonder if this was something it would be able to sustain throughout use or if it would eventually become just another blanket.

I have had the blanket out lying on the sofa for everyone to use. Olivia so far doesn’t want to use it, and my niece was horrified at why a blanket would be cold. But as a woman of an age where I am hotter more than I am cold, this blanket is a godsend. So I thought I would hold off on my review to see how things went instead of rushing in with my first thoughts within a few days.

Regardless of how much it has been handled, it stays cool to the touch. I did fall asleep under it, and it provided no warmth for snuggling into, so it’s not a blanket for the winter. Let me get them out there. I have to admit I thought to myself, “why would you use a blanket when you are hot?” but after singing the blanket when I am hot, I understand, and I get it. It is super soft on both sides, the cooling material providing a more silky feel to one side, and the cotton side is more soothing and more like a blanket for those who prefer a different texture. I find both sides equally cooling and pleasant on your skin.

It doesn’t instantly cool you, that isn’t something I would say it does, but over time slowly, the coolness of the blanket does calm you and gradually bring down your temperature. It is ideal for my bedroom, which gets super hot and leaves me throwing off the covers. While I can’t sleep under it all night yet, I use it to cool down when getting in bed, and I am sure that if the weather warms up in summer, I will 100% be sleeping under it all night.

That being said, I’m not sure how well it will work being outside in the sun, but if you come inside on a hot day, it can help you cool down. However, Tegan has claimed the blanket (as she does with all blankets) as hers and is currently using it on warmer days to keep cool in the house. We’re sharing it, it seems, but this can be perfect if you have a pet and are worried about them overheating. Bear in mind it is pretty big so it won’t be suitable for smaller dogs, but as a strong beagle, Tegan is fine underneath it and shrugs it off when she’s done with it.

It has been washed once regarding washing the blanket and has no issues at all. I put it on a cool 30-degree wash and air dry it. I think one side might bobble in time, but this will depend on your use and detergent.

Overall, I am impressed with this blanket, and it will be ideal for me in the summer when I am too hot. It might take some getting used to for some people texture-wise, but the Nitowolf Cooling Blanket does precisely what it says on the tin or, rather, the Amazon description.
