Recently I have noticed when looking in a mirror – something I try to do as little as possible – that my eyes seem to look really heavy and tired all the time. Generally speaking, I am tired most of the time but lately, it seems to be taking its toll on my eyes and it’s not really a good look. On top of this I suffer from dry eyes and in this weather, I find I am rubbing them a lot more than usual as they feel irritated too. This could be down to the fact I seem to have a mild on/off cold that just won’t shift!
One thing I have never really thought about using before was an eye mask. One of my sisters wears an eye mask to sleep but honestly, I didn’t even think that maybe this could help me reduce the puffiness in my eyes and help them to feel and look a bit more awake and alert. I was intrigued when the Thera-Pearl Eye Mask from Feel Good Contacts dropped through my letterbox and couldn’t wait to try it out.
The Thera-Pearl Eye Mask can be used hot or cold.
Either freeze it for up to 2 hours or pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to use warm. The small blue pearls inside the mask will retain the heat or keep the mask cool for 20 mins. The heated mask can help with dry eyes or headaches/nasal congestion by using as a warm compress whilst using the mask cool will help increase blood flow and rejuvenate tired eyes. This pretty much covers all of my bases.
Heating the Thera-Pearl Mask.
For my first use, I opted to try it warm. I could feel a headache coming on so it was a perfect time. I just popped it in the microwave for 12 seconds and took it upstairs to lie down. The mask went on, I closed my eyes and by the time the mask was cool I was nearly asleep. I loved it! The first use didn’t alleviate my slight headache but it was so relaxing and soothing on my eyes.
Since then I have been using when I can feel a headache coming on. I feel I get more benefit for this than my eyes if I am honest and as mostly I get tension headaches this is great in helping to ease them off a little before they get too bad. As it only takes 10 -15 seconds to heat it is pretty easy and quick to use too.
Cooling the Thera-Pearl Eye Mask.
What an odd sensation! I have never used anything like this on my eyes and it took me a few minutes to feel comfortable with it. But after that initial reaction, and subsequent uses, I loved it. I have been using it first thing in the morning mostly. I pop it in the freezer overnight and wear it for around 10 mins before starting my day. The coolness helps me to not drift off and afterwards, my eyes really do feel refreshed and not so dry.
Dry eyes is a major issue for me and whilst I could see any noticeable difference to my eyes, I could feel it which is a huge benefit especially when they feel gritty from lack of sleep or staring at a laptop all day! The box says you get dry eye relief from using the mask warm however personally, my eyes felt more refreshed from using the mask cold but this may not be true for others.
I can’t help but wonder why I have never thought to try something like this before.
I love the versatility of this mask. My preference right now is to use it warm. It really is comforting for all these lingering headaches and sinus issues due to the cold weather. However, this could change once the weather starts getting warmer.
Whilst I didn’t notice any real change in the puffiness around my eyes or any physical changes, I did notice some changes in other areas. I suspect this would happen over time and with more regular use possibly.
The Thera-Pearl Eye Mask itself is really comfortable to wear and moulds nicely to the shape of your face when you wear it. I wondered if the plastic would be uncomfortable and possibly stick to my skin but I didn’t have any problems. Not even with the elasticated band around my head. Which so far, after 3 weeks of usage seems to be holding out really well too.
