Raising Diana: The Road to Demenia

So, here it is, the final part of my series, Raising Diana. She really was hard to work to write about. One of my more feistier girls, we have finally reached the end of her journey. I could have dragged it out over 2 parts, but don’t all the best series finish with a last bumper instalment. So why not Diana? I really hope you all have enjoyed reading her as much as I have had writing about her and mostly, I hope this last instalment doesn’t let her down! Previous parts include Raising Diana, Betrayal, Who Do You Trust When Everyone Is Out For Themselves, and The Journey for The Wand.

Raising Diana: The Road to Demenia

Diana stood in front of him, her heart beating out of her chest, her eyes refusing to believe it was actually him in front of her. How could he? The man she shared DNA with. Her father, biologically but in no other sense fo the word. Diana was still struggling to get her head around it. How could he? How could that man, the man who had fallen in love with her mother and been in prime position to be the leader of their people give it all up, for well, this? It made no sense.

But ever since she had heard his voice whilst rescuing the wand from the shadow makers, she knew it was true. Her father wasn’t the man her mother had led her to believe he was. This man, not that you could call him that, spineless coward was more appropriate. Had turned his back on love for greed, power, for magic only to destroy it all for his gains. But holding his gaze as she stood before him on the open air platform his predecessor used to unite all magical beings, she saw the only resemblance between them both now was determination. At least she had something to thank him for before she killed him.

Diana broke his gaze and cast her eyes to the sky. The navy space above them was littered with light, like millions of tiny fireflies making their way out and away from Demenia before they got caught up in the something they had no business in. “I don’t blame them,” thought Diana as she closed her eyes. The Demia inside her had awoken but she was keeping it at bay enough to be able to draw on its strength and power but not let it fully reign over her. If ever she needed a boost from the demon within it was now.

Just then she saw it. A streak etching its way across the skies.

A vivid purple so bright it cut through the night like a canvas being ripped apart from behind. Diana let a smile warm her insides. This man had no idea what he had let himself in for. He thought he was winning, had the upper hand. But Diana had held back as he scoffed to everyone in the landing area, about how weak she was, how he was going to savour killing off her race until the only one left was himself. That was how she found herself before him. Kneeling, chained to the floor keeping the demon at bay and her mouth closed. The chill of the concrete under her knees cooled her temper as she bided her time.

That time was nearly here. After she retrieved the wand, the witches told her that it’s magic and the reign of those in charge could only be released by an act, not of this world. Diana was stumped. This world was the only world she knew. Earth, where she lived side by side with humans, co-existing day to day. What on earth did “not of this world” mean.

But then one night Daniel got it.

From his prison at her farm after she saved his life before slaying the leader fo the shadow makers. He had heard rumours about the neighbouring town, Saltlake and how the high school had been wiped out by a battle raging from the skies. How the mayor was from another galaxy and all the officials kept their little town from harm.

Sure no one believed it, those who had asked had been brushed off with a smile, but still, people talked. After some digging, Diana learnt all the rumours were true, and now the purple streak tracing its way through the stars was her one chance to restore the balance in Demenia for once and for all.

Ariel focused on Diana. Her power of telepathy was perfect in these situations. “It’s time” she motioned as she wove her way through the clouds and towards the centre of the raging mob. Ariel felt the familiar tingling of her skin as her body prepared to fight. She brushed her arm against a hooded man stooped over another on the ground. She could feel his energy struggling to stay contained as she relieved him of his precious treasure without breaking her stride. Daniel smiled as he felt Ariel come into contact with the wand.

The magic contained in the wand linked to her own powers and within seconds Ariel had accessed all it had to offer. The spell was a strong one and she was blessed to be able to release it back to its rightful owner. Using her mind, Ariel freed the prisoner chained to the floor in the centre of the fracas. She watched Diana rise to her feet in front of the foe taunting her to the baying crowds. “I like this girl,” she thought. The one she had never met but had travelled so far to help. “She’s my kind of girl” Ariel whispered as she took her stance and prepared for battle, the wand gripped tightly in her right hand ready to unleash.

Diana rose from the floor as the chains melted away from wrists. “Wow, she’s powerful” she mused, I really hope I get a chance to meet her after this is over. “You will my friend” she heard Ariel in her thoughts. “I’ll be here as long as you need me” But that was then and this was now. Diana was ready. Her people, Daniel and the witches were here ready for bloodshed and war as were all the other races wanting justice for the crimes of those in charge. But she knew this was her fight. She and her father and only one family member would survive.

But he had felt it, his eyes shifted, changing from brown to a hard steel as his face contorted in rage. “I know you are here girl, give yourself up before it’s too late” he screamed through the crowds. “You will not be leaving here alive tonight”

“Go now, go now” Ariel urged as she thrust the wand into Diana’s hand from behind. ” This girl is ready for war”

Gripping the wand, Diana intertwined her fingers with Ariels and unleashed the wand. Channelling the spells from the covern Diana spew her words loud and far for all to hear. She lifted her head to the heavens as she drew on more power and connected to the universe. She could feel it, the nod and release of its power through her as her body tingled as it tried to contain it all. She had never felt such power.

In a flash, the sky turned black. The stars extinguished, the only light coming from the wand as it released its power. Diana heard her dad chanting in the background, calling on the depths of hell to help him murder his one and only offspring as he violently spew his magic directly at her. This was war. It was what the prophecy had foretold and as the dark magic struck her in the chest Diana stumbled, her legs giving way to the floor.

Diana gripped the wand tighter as she powered all she had through it’s blackened wood exterior and in response, Ariel reacted and turned her attention to Diana’s father. If this man was able to reign over this world, what would stop her taking over other galaxies far and wide? After installing peace and returning as ruler and high princess to Auragon, her home after growing up mere miles away from Diana, Ariel felt this too was her fight and was more than happy to help despite Jonny’s warnings.

Using telepathy, Ariel unleashed her magic straight into the mind of their enemy. Watching his face twitch as he detected an intruder inside the one place he never expected others to be able to attack him. She was in his mind and within seconds she could feel him fighting her. But he didn’t know. His struggle between destroying Diana and fighting his own mind was becoming visible as he stumbled on the stage. “Now” shouted Ariel, “I have him”

Diana wasted no time and struck a lethal blow through his guard before it was too late. Watching the orange beam hit directly in the chest, she felt his power drain as the wand absorbed all that was dark from the man she once called Daddy. As his power ebbed from his body, the skies opened up as the moon reflected on him as if it was his own spotlight. He was dying she could feel it. Her magic, laced with Ariel’s had hurt him more than she realised. She never intended to harm him but holding the wand in her hand she felt this was what was supposed to happen.

This was her time, what she had been waiting for.

Demenia was hers now and as the dying man before took his last breath, Diana took in the sight before her. The whole magical world ready for a new ruler, ready for her. This would be a long journey she thought to herself as she allowed a small smile to grace her lips as the next chapter started in the Raising of Diana. Queen of Demia’s and new ruler of Demenia.
