Bacofoil Foil Sandwich Bags Review
Last week I received some Bacofoil Sandwich Bags to review. Now a few months back these would have been perfect for Olivia’s lunch box as I was always paranoid that leaving her tuna mayo butties sweating in her lunch box would make her ill. But now she is on school dinners, still eating tuna mayo butties most days too, it is me that ends up carting butties to work in my handbag.
You know how it goes, you spend 10 mins lovingly preparing an epic sandwich for lunch only for it to end up a) squashed, b) contents no longer on the actual bread and c) soggy. Not so appetising now is it! Bacofoil claim that their foil bags are ideal for retaining heat, ie bacon butty anyone or keeping your sandwiches cool, tuna mayo! They also can retain freshness for up to 24 hours and are reusable too.
First I thought I would give them a try on something hot. I didn’t have any bacon in so it was a sausage butty. I cooked as usual and then popped it into the foil bag as per instructions, expelling all the air from the bag before sealing. I then left it half an hour. Ignoring my rumbling stomach was the worst part before finally giving in and going to check on it. You could still feel the heat through the bag so I guess I have to admit it did retain the heat to a certain extent. It didn’t keep it piping hot, just cooked, hot but after 30 minutes it was still edible and the sausage wasn’t cold, however………………. the steam had nowhere to go. It inevitably turned into water thus making the whole inside of the bag wet, not just damp, wet. Making the bread wet also as it soaked up the moisture.
I wasn’t impressed with this development. I’m not sure had I chosen something else that was warm it would have had different results however I don’t think I will be using them to keep my food warm again. I also made the bag unusable again too so it went straight in the bin after one use.
Next up was the tuna mayo butty, I couldn’t not really,could I! I made it Friday night, popped it in the bag as before and put it straight in the fridge overnight. Olivia then took this to gymnastics on Saturday morning and all was edible, there were no complaints and it was a fresh as when I made it the night before. It also stayed cool while she was at gymnastics too! I also took my dinner to work Saturday in them. I found that even though the are ‘large’ they are still a bit snug inside and just about got two rolls in. This being said they are rigid and held them together so no filling sliding off and all as they were when I put them in.
Verdict?
A bit of a mixed one from me. I like them, actually prefer them to standard sandwich bags. No sloppy bread, escaped filling and still as fresh as when I made them. Whilst I do agree that they retain heat, I wasn’t impressed with the quality of the food when removed from the bag. It may not bother other people but I didn’t like it, sorry Bacofoil!

I do like the sound of the sandwich bags.
Curious about the sandwich bags though they don’t seem to offer too many advantages over standard bags, but I would definitely find buying some foil useful, as well as those foil trays – they’d be great for doing some batch cooking!

These sound really interesting, though I am not surprised that you discovered they were a disaster with hot food – I can see the problem there, with the condensation!
I would get the 100% Biodegradable Cling Film. they should make all cling film like this.

the bacofoil sandwich bags look good, but also the clingfilm dispenser. so often i end up with clingfilm in a mess because it wont rip..this looks a good product

I would probably get the basic foil, I use a lot of it.
The easy portion trays, I do like to batch bake/cook so these are perfect for the freezer.
