A bit of a different book review for us here. When the lovely people over at Miles Kelly asked if Olivia would like to receive a copy of their new book 100 Facts about Butterflies and Moths she was actually quite excited. You see Olivia is a sponge for all kinds of weird and wonderful facts that you didn’t know you should know. Then at random times she tells you something even more random like it just popped into her head and she couldn’t keep it to herself any longer!
So really I should have known this kind of book would be right up her street. She has been flicking through it and I’m sure she is storing up the knowledge for some time way off in the future when she can then inform me of the things she has learnt from this book! I can pretty much guarantee it will probably be the most inappropriate time as well!
100 Facts about Butterflies and Moths is exactly that. 100 short and easy to read facts with pictures and illustrations. The pictures are all used with, and linked into, the appropriate facts making each one more informative helping to emphasise the corresponding fact. As you can see from the pictures it is really easy to read with all the information kept simple to understand and bite sized. Perfect for small but inquisitive minds.
I loved the layout of each page being different and the fact that they are uncluttered and easy to navigate. I have to admit to being a bit squeamish, I’m not the best with insects, winged flying creatures or bugs and the like so I flicked though some of the pages. Olivia liked that she could just pick it up and put it down whenever she wanted. There is no story or time line to follow and could just choose a page and take it from there. If you want to know something specific there is also an index at the back to help you find exactly what you are looking for.
This book is perfect for those who have an interest in Butterflies and Moths as it is packed with information, quizzes and craft activities too. This book is also ideal for those who are home schooling as a great accompaniment when learning about different types of insects. There are plenty of facts to help teach and provide a basis for discussion. The added bonus of having craft ideas ideas is great too as I find most kids soak up more knowledge when they are doing rather than just listening.
100 Facts Butterflies and Moths is available to buy from Amazon for £6.99.
