Welcome to day 5 of the One Frazzled Mum 8th blog Birthday Competitions

How have you been enjoying my blog competitions so far? Today is day 5, and I have a great prize for you all.

You know I love writing and fiction writing myself, don’t you? I have so much fiction on this blog and even my own fiction blog too. Well, this love of writing came first from a love of reading. Growing up, I was a massive bookworm and could always be found in my local library. Everyday. I read so many books, mainly under the guidance of my local librarians, who eventually had to start ordering books for me from other libraries.

My favourite author growing up was Berlie Doherty. I even met her when I was around 9 or 10. I listened to her read part of one of her books, and I got a signed copy of Tilly Mint and The Dodo. I’m not sure what happened to that book.

I remember the librarians’ disappointment when I discovered the Sweet Valley High series, though they thought it wasn’t worth my time; once I found joy in these, my love of teen and YA fiction began. After all, reading is reading, and you should be able to read what you enjoy and not be sniffled by other peoples opinions of what you should read.

This is so true for children who need to be encouraged to read whatever they choose in whatever format they prefer. I tried so hard to encourage Olivia, but she isn’t a reader like I am. I did manage to get her reading Marvel comics a while back; however, that fizzled out.

For those familiar with CBeebies, you may recognise one of the titles having recently been read on air in a very special episode. This box set was written by one of the UK’s favourite children’s authors, who coincidentally never actually intended to be an author.
