Going shopping with kids isn’t the easiest of jobs sometimes is it? Sometimes it can seem like you are the only parent with a child who won’t behave whilst trying to do the weekly shop. From tantrums to disappearing in a different aisle. Filling your trolley with items you don’t need or just plain refusing to pay attention to others shopping around you. Shopping with kids can quickly turn from a walk in the park to a dance with the devil!
After a while, I used to have to change my tactics when I had no choice but to take Olivia shopping with me. I don’t know about you, but shopping for food always brought out the worst in her! If you have the same problem maybe you could try out some of these tips and see if they work for you!
Make It A Game That They Can Join In With.
Make shopping fun! Walking through the aisles can be boring for anyone so why not appeal to the kids fun side and turn it into a game!
Olivia used to love making a list with me beforehand and checking what we already had. Carry this on to the supermarket by having your children help you look for items on your list and checking them off!
Keep Everybody Together.
Keeping everybody together can be tough, so why not make it a game to ensure everybody keeps a hand on your shopping cart? If somebody lets go then they lose points! You can get as creative as you want with this and come up with so many different games.
Make Sure You’ve All Eaten
It’s a well-known fact that if you shop on an empty stomach, you will buy 100% more junk food and sweet/savoury treats depending on your preference. This is the same for kids too. If you can go right after you’ve eaten, then you’ll all be more likely to get what you need and get out.
Give Yourself Plenty Of Time
You just can’t rush doing anything with kids, let alone shopping. Most things seem to take three times as long don’t they! So make sure you give yourself plenty of time!
The infographic below can help you to avoid some of the pesky supermarket tricks, too!
