Recently, I had the best time in Fuerteventura with my mum and my youngest sister. We took a late autumn, child-free holiday just the three of us. A week in the sun of relaxing and pretty much not a lot else. It was fabulous. Luckily we managed to book not only the perfect island to relax in but the perfect hotel too.
Fuerteventura is a beautiful island. Our hotel, Arena Beach, had a relaxed vibe which was ideal for what we wanted and was close by to the shops and bars off-site. I had never been abroad without Olivia and possibly won’t again so I am pleased it was worth it.
But one thing I did worry about was what to wear around the pool. I am not one to shy away from throwing my swimsuit on for an afternoon lazing around the pool. But as a plus size girl, I am careful in what I wear so I not only feel comfortable but covered up and supported too in my choice of swimwear.

Last year i posted a picture of me in my tankini before I went on holiday. This year it's a full costume. I am unpacking my dress swimsuit and taking this one (and an identical red one) instead. I would like to say a big thank you to @shakethatweightdiet for helping with my recent body goals and giving me the push I needed to be confident to wear this around the pool next week. I am definitely beach body ready! Swimsuit from @bonmarcheuk
I admit it can be tricky to know what to pack and I am the first person to over pack for any situation. But there is a lot to be said for mixing and matching outfits and creating somewhat of a capsule type holiday wardrobe for your time away. This not only makes shopping easier but takes all the hassle out of choosing what to wear around the pool. The last thing you want to be doing when you book a last minute getaway to the sun is to be frantically rushing around trying to find too many outfits that chances are you won’t wear!
Keep your options simple to create a capsule look, going for colours that work well together and flatter each other. Pick a few items that work well together and can be worn in different ways to change up your look. For my holiday I kept it bright with coral and green for around the pool with my beach cover-up items matching my costumes. Simply Beach has a gorgeous range of plus size swimwear that you can mix and match with their clothing.
Keeping it strapless for around the pool makes sure you lose any tan lines from straps. But this Panache Florentine Moulded Bandeau Swimsuit has support in all the right places with underwires and moulded cups to fit your size as well as adjustable straps.
For those who like to keep covered up or are looking for a suitable option to head out and about in with swimwear on underneath, a maxi dress is a perfect option. Able to dress up or down, depending on your style. A maxi dress is a must for any holiday. I took two with me and they were ideal for mealtimes and for putting on over my costumes for a day of sunbathing or dressing up for the evening.
If you are more of a kaftan kinda girl, make sure to choose colours and styles to compliment your costume to create a bold and striking look can be mixed up during the day by adding a belt and/or shorts to create a different look. They are ideal for warm sunny days when all you want is something light covering your skin.
Maybe try out a sarong before you go and see how many different ways you can wear it!
Accessories can really transform the way your outfit looks and are great for taking you from day to night. And you don’t need too many either, just a couple of statement pieces to transform your look.
