Creating Winter Cosiness

At the end of a very long workday, you have to go out into the cold and make your commute home. When you’re wrapping up against the harsh wind and rains, you need to have something comfortable and cosy to look forward to when you get home. The best way to do that is to create a living room space that’s as warm and comfortable as possible without breaking the bank at the same time.

Getting comfortable this winter is going to matter, because not only do you want to save money on your heating bill, you need to think about how to keep the SAD away. The more comfortable you are, the happier you will feel. So, how can you create winter cosiness in your home?

Keeping In The Heat.

As part of being energy efficient, you want to keep the heat in the home so that you can stay warm. You can buy custom curtains online to hang and cover the windows, keeping the heat in the house and the cold outside. You have to make sure that your living room is insulated well for the winter months, so start with the window treatments – curtains over blinds is a good place to begin. Then, add rugs to the floors – even if you already have carpets. This can keep the living room warm and extremely comfortable.

Rich Colours.

Your living room needs to feel warm and you can create that feeling with using rich and deep colour palettes. Charcoal and navy, purples and reds – these are all warm colours that can give an impression of warmth, making you feel comfortable from the toes up.

A Low Glow.

Cosiness isn’t just in the fluffy fabric of your couch and pillows, it’s in the light that you use in the room, too. Candles and dim lighting, especially the light of a flickering fireplace, can add a warm glow and a cosy atmosphere.

Textured Layers.

In the winter, you should have throws over the armchairs and sofas for an easy grab when you’re feeling the prickling cold outside. Choose chunky knits, faux fur and fuzzy fleece just to be able to revel in cosiness. If you want to be more indulgent with your choices, go for silk-backed blankets and wool cushion covers. All of these layers will add a lot of warmth to the house.

Add Shine.

While you’ve got a richly dark colour palette, you need to think of ways to compliment it. Brass and copper accessories can make those colours pop and the use of metallics can make your room feel on trend for the season. The deeper coloured metallics are also fantastic as Christmassy items in the room so don’t be afraid to go for it.

Your home needs to embrace warmth and comfort for the winter months approaching and the best way to do that is with the tips above. Go for as many layers as you’d like and embrace a little bit of a colour change. You have the power to get cosy.
