Win A Pair of School Shoes from Treads
It’s that time of year again. Where the end of the school summer holidays loom and the craziness that is buying new school uniform whilst it is still in stock is on! This year I am organised. OK, more organised than last year, as in I have socks, shirts and skirts ordered and paid for. Last year, I was a last-minute Lucy and was found in a 45-minute queue outside the local school uniform shop days before the new term before rushing around trying to source and appropriate backpack and stationery for Lil Miss Fussy.
This year, I am aiming to not have to do this and be prepared before the end of the school holidays. Luckily Olivia’s dad is buying her new blazer, her current one is falling apart after two years and her school shoes. He does buy her school shoes every year. Having grown out of the widest fitting in Clarks before she was 9, we have largely stuck to the same style as she feels more comfortable in the Mary Jane style shoes.
Over the years, we have changed brands and now she is older, we manage to get the whole school year from one pair. The thing with buying school shoes is, kids have a habit of growing at the most inappropriate times, don’t they! It is safe to say we have picked up a few tricks over the years when it comes to buying school shoes for Olivia. although these days, it more fashion over practicality.
Treads School Shoes.
Treads have a great range of leather school shoes with a 12-month indestructible guarantee on all shoes, Treads school shoes are proven to be robust and perfect for the rough and tumble that comes with kids and whatever it is they do in school! The best thing is, girls AND boys shoes are made exactly the same.

I don’t know about you but I always found Olivia’s shoes were less prepared for the scruffs and scrapes that came with school life. One year I think we bought new shoes after only a week! Treads take this issue away and you can be guaranteed your girl’s school shoes are the same standard as boys shoes.
One thing I did like was that you have the option to remove a layer to make the shoes wider. Perfect for kids with a broader foot fitting than standard. So, if you are wanting to not have to replace your kid’s school shoes after only a week, it may be worth taking a look online and seeing what Treads have to offer!
Tips for Buying School Shoes.
- Buy Online. Ordering shoes online can be pretty easy. If your child’s feet are still growing, why not invest in an at-home measuring gauge to make sure you get the best fit possible. This takes away all the traipsing around different shops looking for the right fit with kids who clearly don’t want to do this as much as you. Or measure your kid’s feet yourself and use Treads, handy online calculator!
- Read the reviews. No one has put these shoes through their paces better than kids. So look for other parents reviews online to see how your chosen style will hold up against the school year.
- If you are visiting a store to buy shoes, why not book an appointment before you visit if this option is available. it will save a lot of tears and waiting around if you are leaving the shoe shop until the end of summer.
- Look for rubberised toes. This will give you extra protection from scuffs and help the shoes to last longer.
- Don’t forget, your child is the one who will be wearing the shoes all day. Let them take the lead (within reason) and opt for a style they feel comfortable in not a pair you feel they should be wearing.
- For younger kids, velcro is your best friend. It is easier and quicker for them when taking shoes on and off. Leave laces and/or buckles until they are older and more efficient at fastening them.
- Break them in at home before school starts. No one likes to spend days with shoes rubbing them least of all kids. So stay ahead and get them broken in at home before they need to wear them all day.

when on offer buy uniform not only for year ahead but for further years also
I tend to spread out buying the uniform as if you stick to one shop you can generally predict next size just leaving the expensive items like shoes till the end of the holidays
Buy early. Shops seem to run out towards the end of the holiday.
A week before they return back to school, return to normal bedtime and normal wake up in preparation for school. Also there are name labels that can just be stuck on to the labels saving ironing or sewing.
Start buying early, or even better buy for next year in the sale
Practice your morning routine before the actual first day!
Be organised and make a list of things to do and get
get organised well in advance, dont forget feet grow
Always prepare well in advance and plan carefully
Don’t go out without making a list. I bought doubles of some things as I found them on offer and couldn’t remember what I had bought. Luckily my youngest is one size smaller and they will fit her next year.
Buy uniform over the space of the six weeks holidays and label everything. Also take advantage of supermarkets offers such as 25% off
Get back into a regular bedtime routine at least a week before
Plan early and label everything x
Start buying early. Last year I left it late and couldn’t find any suitable trousers
buy in advance
Get organised well in advance! I have one child’s shoes bought, another ordered and one left to buy so not doing too badly this year…
Mine is to start the year off as you mean to go on, so always pack bags the night before, check homework is done, PE kit packed if needed and packed lunch in the fridge ready to go.
I try to make sure I get all the uniform ordered as soon as they pack up that way theirs plenty of time for delivery
try not to leave everything to the last minute
Don’t leave it til the last minute.. as then finding the right coloured and sized cardigans, jumpers etc is going to be very difficult and stressful.
Be super organised!
Make sure you name everything they take! I got a stamp with our surname on so I can use it for both boys!
Do a list of everything you need, get it early don’t leave it to the last minute
Get everything ready way before you need it! Make a list!
Get your uniform shopping done in the first few weeks of the holidays so you can enjoy the rest of the summer!
be organised and label everything
Buy uniform early and label everything
Do your back to school shopping early (particularly shoes!) so you can ensure you get everything you need and in good time to avoid last minute stressful shopping!
start buying early like june/july early so youre not struggling to get everything in time and buy a size bigger so the kids dont outgrow everything rapidly obviously shoes are different and need to be bought in the right size
Always start early and plan ahead of what you need
Prepare well in advance and make a trial run to the school if it is a new one to you – timing is all important as is parking if necessary!
If you have unusual coloured shirts/t-shirts always buy early!
Everything you could possibly want is on ebay and cheaper than the high street (at least my local)
Make lists and start early!
Organisation is a deffo, start getting into a routine a few days before the first day
Organisation is key. Buy uniforms and shoes as soon as you can! Look out for deals, such as M&S 20% off school uniforms. Invest in good quality, such as Treads or Clarks shoes (which should last most of the school year).
Getting back into a bedtime routine
Make a list, don’t leave it to the last minute, I buy shoes no more than two weeks before they go back.
Label everything well in advance. Preparation is key! (Especially when you have 3 kids like me !)
The iron on name labels are really quick and easy to secure on, with a pair of hair straighteners!
Prepare for every little eventually and everything may just go to plan.
Don’t bulk buy school uniforms, who knows if they’ll fit a few weeks later.
If you’re not quite ready, don’t worry. Leaving it to the last minute is not gonna end in nuclear disaster lol!
Label everything!
Write a checklist of what you need to buy and tick off when you have bought them. I recommend getting an item or two in weekly rather than leaving everything to the laat minute as it is expensive
Make a list of what they size they had last year as you clear out clothes so you can just buy a size up online!
Don’t leave it all to the last minute as that makes it more stressful
Find out the best shop that sells cheap or reasonably priced uniform. There is no point spending loads (unless you have loads) as uniform will be washed multiple times, played in, and will have pen marks on in no time!
Be very good organised, Put label on everything and try to prepare everything on previous weekend.
Save your hands, purchase printed school labels that are strong and stick them to everything
Organisation is key to avoid the queues! I never follow this advice…
Actually check what they do need. My son used to say he needed new math sets, pencils, pens, etc but didn’t actually need them. So make a list of what they do require & what can still be used, then buy something each week so there isn’t just one major shop to do.
Keep them reading lots over the summer holidays so that they are ready to go in September.
Don’t buy the school shoes too early in the holidays! Last year, I bought my son’s a week into the holidays, so I could be sure there was a good range to choose from and he went up two sizes in 6 weeks!
make a list so you don’t forget everything. price it all up so it’s not too much of a shock!
label everything
We have a community ‘give and take’ project, where everything required for school from clothing to books etc are donated by parents for parents. All that is asked is, that the donations are in good condition. It is surprising how little wear some of the items have had, so it would be wasteful not to reuse them.
Be prepared and dont make too much of a big thing of it.
Label label label! Also my 12 year old is growing so quickly I need to wait til the very last minute for his shoes
Buy everything early and label everything!
These shoes are great x
Get back into a proper bed time routine a week before!
get everything as early as possible as it gets sold out near the end of the school hols! x
buy all the new uniforms at the start of the holidays so there is no last minute stressing around shops
Don’t leave everything until the last minute! x
Make sure you make a list of everything you need in advance so you are not searching for essentials at the last minute
Label all clothes (and shoes – from experience!!) Make sure you have all clothes and PE kits ready. For younger children get them to make a memory book over summer so they feel more excited to go back and show their friends everything they have done, rather than being worried or upset
Plan in good time clothes, tags and labelling and give your child lots of love and encouragement if they’re only just starting or moving up a class
Don’t leave everything till last minute, I sorted and named all of the new clothes first week of the holiday, it just means you don’t worry about it all summer
start early to spread the cost
Make a list of things on their last day of school term…..then get a few things at a time throughout the holidays… doesn’t seem so pressured or expensive that way!
Put it in the calendar!….I use my phone calendar, but papers good too as long as it’s in the calendar, it might get done. Check the school calendar and put dates and notes in yours for everything that’s relevant for your children. I even put a repeating weekly note to make packed lunches (because they change days each term and I forget after the holidays)
being prepared and not leaving buying new uniform until the last minute.
shop early.. spread the cost
Put everything you need for the next morning in the hall the night before.
Get everything ready the week before, so you arent rushing last minute trying to find items
Get moving as soon as the kids break up in July
Be as organised as possible, don’t rush at the last minute, I like to shop around online for the best deals. Name tag everything.
This is what our first school September, so probably not in the best position to give out advice!
Although, I always make lots of lists, so have made lists of all things to buk, and things to do, is label clothes, return paperwork to school.
Shop for everything gradually, it can be a huge hit when you’re buying it all at once.
be organised early
Buy things all year round to save the massive financial hit in the already expensive summer holidays
Be prepared! Don’t leave buying everything until the last week of the holidays!
Label all school uniform and PE kits!
Make sure to book school lunches before last term ends. I forgot until last week, went online and have missed the first 3 week’s deadline – packed lunch it is then *eye roll* lol x
Invest in a new alarm clock for the new term.
We had a fantastic school trip to germany – it was so much fun and the weather was fantastic
Just buy enough to get them started on their first day then buy the rest when the sale starts that way you can saveeeeeeeee
get everything bought as soon as possible so that you don’t have a last minute rush, also night before get everything out ready.
After the problems we had last year, I would advise buy early if you can
the last week before they go back to school, start the routine, so getting up as they would for school, and going to bed like they would on a school night, meals at a normal time basically what they would do when they are at school
Establish a morning routine, set goals and organise your planner.
I watch the local Facebook selling page for jumpers, PE kit and ties to save a few pounds.
If it’s your first time, do the journey beforehand to see how long it actually takes with a small child!
I’d love to win some of these
Make sure all their clothes are comfortable and soft. There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable and having itchy tags etc.
Write down what you need (uniform, school bag…) and make a plan before you hit the shops. Don’t leave it until the last minute.
My tip is to buy everything you need for the next school year before the current school year ends then you can enjoy spending time with your family instead of running about buying everything they need for school
Uniforms etc we gradually get, we have a shop in our town where you can put money away weekly, so it doesnt come as such a shock when we need to buy it all, shoes are the nightmare, but with patience and plenty of coffee we get through it
Start shopping for school supplies early! It’s less stressful and most items can be cheaper at different times in the year!
I buy bigger sizes in school uniform at the start of the summer holidays and label up to save time and no rushing around before they go back
Buy replacement clothing, footwear and sports kit at the beginning of the Summer holidays. Waiting until the end means choices are limited and shopping is stressful.
Mine is to be organised early – know what new things you will need, make a list and get them bit by bit to spread the cost!
Get back into a routine of earlier bedtimes and early rising in the final week of the holidays.
Has to be label absolutely everything and label it as you get it so it’s nit all the night before !
Organise a plan ! That way you are not leaving it to the last minute
