I know I am not alone when I say I really miss being on holiday. My last holiday was in October 2019, and I went to Lanzarote with my mum and youngest sister. For July 2020, I had a trip to Disneyland Paris booked, which we, given the circumstances, rearranged for July 2021.

However, now it is just a waiting game to see if travel to France will be allowed this year. In the meantime, we are looking at different UK destinations to have a staycation this year. In the past we have visited;

• Great Yarmouth
• Devon
• Porthcawl – South Wales
• Rhyl – North Wales

The list isn’t all that extensive, and there are so many great destinations in the UK to visit, there is no reason you cannot enjoy a staycation in the UK. Most specifically, we always stay in caravans. We absolutely love caravan holidays, which is perfect for the current climate within the UK.

As of April 2021, the current rules regarding travel within the UK stipulate that travel within the home countries is allowed but in a fully self-contained environment, e.g., for self-catering holidays only. This is perfect for us, and with keeping in line with changing guidelines and advice from the government, there is no reason we cannot choose a place to visit in the UK for our holiday this summer.

The Lake District

One place I have never visited before is The Lake District. It is a beautiful part of the country and only a few hour’s drive from where I lived. For me, The Lake District was once synonymous with camping, and I am not a camping kind of girl. I like my material comforts, and the thought of sleeping under a piece of material doesn’t appeal to me.

However, there are plenty of hotels and caravan sites with the county and vicinity of some of the most beautiful parts of The Lake District.

What to See in The Lake District

Lake District National Park

The Lake District National Park is home to some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK. With different walking and hiking trails along with boat rides on several of the lakes. For those who love to bask in the countryside’s natural beauty, there are few more breathtaking places than Lake District National Park.

Hilltop

Hilltop is a National Trust property and the home that inspired many of the Beatrix Potter stories. You can’t deny that this country is steeped in rich historical culture and getting a view into how some of the people who shaped our history lived and what inspired them.

Castlerigg Stone Circle

As I am getting older, I am becoming more interested in seeing places of history, stunning scenery and taking in some of the most picturesque scenery Great Britain has to offer. For this reason, those with similar passions can’t visit Castlerigg Stone Circle when visiting the Lake District.

Aria Force

Are there words to describe how stunning this stone arch bridge overlooking the beautiful 19-metre drop waterfall? There are many trails to get you to Aria Force if you choose not to take the car park’s direct path. When considering the top things to see in the Lake District, you cannot leave this off the list!

Derwent Water

It looks absolutely stunning, and with boat rides around the lake, this looks like an ideal place to relax and take in the beauty of nature.

I think there are plenty of things to do and see in the Lake District for anyone. For me, my ideal breakaway would include late mornings, lazy lunches and relaxing in the peace and tranquillity the scenery offers. Oh, and let’s not forget the good wine and gin while away those long summer nights.
