Liverpool is a great place to visit for kids. In fact, it is just a great place to visit full stop. I am probably biased but I love the fact I live so close to Liverpool and I am grateful to be able to enjoy the city whenever I choose to.

Originally a shipping port, Liverpool is located on the River Mersey and is within waving distance from the Wirral where I reside. these days, Liverpool is more well known for Aintree Racing, The Beatles and it’s two football clubs. But that isn’t all there is to see and do here, far from it.

Let me share with you some of the city’s greatest places to visit as a family. Read on to find out what to do in Liverpool with kids.

What to do in Liverpool With Kids

Albert Dock

There is so much to see at the Albert Docks. well, see and eat. Opened in 1846, the Albert Dock has had a makeover since it opened. Far it’s days as the first non-combustible warehouse in the world gaining attention for its ability to load boats directly from the warehouse. The Royal Albert Dock to give it its full title is now home to a whole entertainment complex and living accommodation too.

Visit Tate Liverpool, Maritime Museum, The Beatles Story, and more to find out about Liverpool’s rich history and culture. Then head to Mattel play! for the little ones to run off some steam with their favourite characters before heading to one of the many cafes and restaurants to grace the docks.

You can also find the bus stops for the city tour buses at the Albert Dock too. Which brings me nicely to…

City Tours

With there being so much to see and do in Liverpool with kids, you can find you miss out on a huge chunk of the city if you attempt to cover it all on foot.

Instead, why not take one of the many city tour buses to show you around. If you have a football fan in tow, then why not take a trip on the Liverpool FC Tour Bus which takes you on a round trip from the Albert dock, to the Shankly hotel and then on to Anfield.

If you don’t have a football fan at home, then why not jump aboard one of the many other tour buses and see the city atop an open-top bus as you hop on and off.

World Museum

Free to all visitors (please leave a donation if you are able to) the World Museum on William Brown Street is centrally located and is a hive for all parents needing to entertain the kids in the local area. The kids all love it and they can learn so much from the permanent exhibitions and the pop-up displays that are different all year round.

Spread out over 5 floors you can visit the planetarium on the top floor or step back in time to the Jurrasic era on floor 4. This is always a top suggestion when it comes to the question of what to do in Liverpool with kids.

Liverpool One

If you are looking for a bit of retail therapy, then Liverpool One is a must. Housing the Odeon cinema and a plethora of family-friendly restaurants, you can easily lose a day or two exploring everything Liverpool one has to offer. Head to Smiggle for your little stationery lovers or the Lego shop and Build a Bear.

Relax in Chavasse Park if the weather permits (it likes to rain up north, a lot!) and maybe if you time it right you can enjoy a summer or even winter festival of fun with attractions and even fair rides in the park.

Liverpool Wheel

Located by the M&S Bank Arena, the Liverpool Wheel offers unbridled views of the city, the River Mersey and across to the Wirral. See Liverpool as you have never seen it before and see exactly how far you can see on a nice clear day! Be warned – this isn’t suitable for those scared of heights (I have never been on it!)

Take In a Show

You are spoilt for choice if you are after taking in a show in Liverpool. It is advisable to book ahead of time to make sure you aren’t disappointed.

Head to the M&S Bank Arena, The Liverpool Empire, the Playhouse, The Everyman or the Philharmonic. With something for everyone to see pretty much all year round, you can have the best time if this is how you choose to spend your time in Liverpool.
