At this time of year, I always start thinking of how best to help my skin adapt to the change of weather. Dry and sensitive by nature, it took me until my 30’s to find a combination that actually works for me and my skin. For years I had no idea on how to look after my skin or how to change its appearance. I used to scramble around trying to find the best tips for dry & sensitive skin.
Sticking to tried and tested moisturisers, new brands irritated my skin. I feared change, yet struggled to combat the real issues with the products I was using. How could I do something different when most new products brought out an allergic reaction on my face? But then slowly I found a combination that worked.
I started off changing my moisturiser so my skin was getting the added moisture it needed to combat the dryness. It worked but wearing foundation was still a problem for me. Liquid foundations seemed to settle on my drier patches making my skin look flaky. Powder foundation was a complete no go as was any other type it seemed. Nothing worked.
That was until I tried a mineral powder. This, combined with my change in skin care gave me the results I had been looking for almost instantly. And I haven’t looked back. These days my skin care regime consists of using the same brand for my cleanser, moisturiser and serum and a mineral powder foundation on top. Low maintenance but perfect for my skin.
Cliche I know, but drinking more water is a massive boost for my skin. I used to always read it on tips for dry & sensitive skin but until the last few years, I didn’t really acknowledge how much it would help in caring for my skin. I can always feel the difference when I haven’t been drinking so much water.
But as the weather changes, I need to change to change too. With the drop in temperature as we head into autumn then winter, my skins really suffers. Mostly thanks to having the heating on at home, work and in the car. To help combat this I add in some extra moisturising products and make sure to keep drinking water to help counteract any extra dryness in my skin.
There are so many products around that can help you care for your skin and tackle any issues due to change in weather, diet or even age. I know my skin is completely different now than it was in my 20’s. Tips for Dry & Sensitive Skin.
- Drink water. Keeping properly hydrated is one of the best ways to keep your skin in good condition ease dryness.
- Find the right skincare products for your skin. Once you find it, invest in the range if you can.
- Try a good night cream. The range I use has day creams, night creams, serums and cleansing products
- Cleanse and moisturise every day.
- Remove makeup before bed especially when using might creams.
- Use moisture rich face masks regularly for an added boost.
- Consider changing your makeup brand to a more lightweight one so your skin can breathe (if you feel this is a problem for you)
