Our Summer Holiday Plans

It’s the start of summer and around 6 weeks off school for most kids. I don’t know about you but it can be hard to keep the kids entertained for the whole time, not to mention expensive! For the past few years, we have been trying to do as many low budget activities as possible to help keep the costs down.

As I won’t have much time off this summer I will be using my sisters to look after Olivia whilst I am in work as they will do with me too. This is handy for us as my boss will be having 2 weeks off work himself and I will be covering his holidays, I am not looking forward to that!

We do have a few things planned for the summer holidays.

Haven Devon Cliffs

We are away the first week and will be driving to Devon to stay at a holiday park with family. It is around a 7-hour journey from where we live and not somewhere we have visited yet so we are all looking forward to that. We have prebooked activity passes for Olivia and my oldest niece so they can try new things to hopefully keep them occupied.

Pontins Prestatyn.

The last week we are staying at a more local holiday park just for the kids to be somewhere else for a few days. The plan for this one is to just get away for a relaxing break. It’s not about having a full holiday experience. We visit here every year so they know the place and what it offers and how to have fun without breaking the bank.

Chester Zoo.

As we have membership passes, pretty much most of our time will be spent visiting the zoo. It is fairly local to us and means that we can visit many times and see different things without having to cram seeing all the animals in one trip.

But I’m Bored…….

This phrase is the soundtrack to our summer really and I have to admit we tend to struggle for fun things to do every day of the holidays. But sometimes this costs money or we have to work. So with this in mind, we will be looking for new and different things to do to keep them occupied whilst at home.

Things like continuing on our Sunday/Thursday walks but taking the kids too. As we walk along the beach this is a great place for them to explore and stretch their legs whilst getting some fresh air. Finding new parks and open spaces to visit now we have the car is also something we will be looking at doing to get out and about. We can take a picnic with us for a cheap and fun day out and just jump in the car and see where we go.

For any rainy days, we have the usual books, movies and board games because you don’t always need to be away from home and spending money to have fun.

We don’t really have computer systems for the kids, they all have tablets or a laptop (for the older girls) to use. But if this is something you have why not try looking for deals for accessories for your kids to try something new. VR headsets can be found online at great prices and can provide hours of fun for kids who like to spend a lot of time playing games. Our girls love to play games on their phones and tablets and watch other people playing games and opening toys on YouTube but they have also tried out a VR headset and loved it. This is definitely a great way to help keep kids entertained if you are stuck indoors or they don’t want to move away from their computer.
