I like to try and be as prepared as I can be for Christmas but that doesn’t mean things always go to plan. Inevitably I will always miss something or someone off my list no matter how many times I check it. Trust me, Santa has no competition there! One of my saving graces is the fact that I make up my ‘aunties bags’ for Christmas for my sisters too. This means that chances are, if I need a last minute gift I will have some items left over to be able to make up a small quick present for someone should I need to!
With a big family to buy for though things do seem to get out of hand when it comes to present buying. With 3 sister’s, 3 niece’s, 1 nephew, a partner for one of my sisters and my mum’s partner there are a lot of people to buy for. Drastically increasing the risk of me forgetting someone.
There are, however, a few things I do to make sure I don’t miss anyone out, or if I do (last year it was an unexpected present for Olivia from one of her friends), I am able to make up a small last minute gift bag of goodies or I have a few ideas of what to buy should I need to.
Planning for my aunties bags begins early November. We buy the gift bags and sweet items first and as I see them on offer in my local shopping centre. I usually source them in high street discount stores. Now we do them for Olivia’s friends too, we make sure to have extra stock in just in case we need to make up an extra bag.
These bags are perfect for people of any age so making an extra one or two up is a great idea. Fill with sweets and add in a small gift. Maybe for adults, you can add in a miniature bottle of their favourite drink. Just Miniatures have a wide range of spirits that would be a great addition for any alcohol lovers present. It’s also a great way to introduce new flavours of their favourite tipple.
Maybe you could source some novelty items, things like key rings and costume jewellery are always a winner as is makeup and nail varnish too. Having one of these made up is perfect last minute gift for anyone as they are so adaptable.
Now, this won’t guarantee you won’t forget anyone or plan for any unexpected visitors/gift givers but it will give you an idea of what you need. Always add in a small token gift too for an extra person/child. Or maybe you could pick things up throughout the year when you seem them on offer.
Next Day Delivery.
Next day delivery is your best friend, especially if you can get it delivered to their home too! It may cost you a little bit extra but it a quick and easy way of getting a present to someone fast should you miss them off and forget to buy them a gift. Of course, there are limitations to posting dates to make sure your gift arrives in time but it is definitely an option if you still have a few days to go.
Left It Too Late?
Trust me, stopping off at an overpriced petrol station on your way home on Christmas Eve is not your friend. Or even your only option these days. Maybe you forgot, or it is an extra person you didn’t account for. But get online. Even on Christmas Eve. Buy a gift voucher for their favourite store. Or a code for their favourite game. What about a subscription box? You can buy these online anytime and whilst they may not get a physical gift on the day itself, on that keeps turning up every month will more than make up for it and is definitely better than the last box of Quality Street left on the shelf!
