October is traditionally the time when we have dug out our warmer clothes and started wrapping up for the winter in a big warm coat. Out comes the slow cooker and we all start indulging in more home cooked comfort food to keep us feeling warm and cosy. Winter exercise seems to totally forgotten about in the quest to keep warm.
This also leads to us settling down at home in front of the fire as we battle to keep warm against the cold winter elements, especially if this winter is going to be anything like the last one. I know I struggled to keep warm and the last thing I wanted to do was to spend more time than necessary outside. This was in part to my dislike of wearing coats!
Things will be changing this year. Before the hot summer days took over, I started Sunday walks with Olivia and my youngest sister. The walks were around 90 mins and before long we decided to add a Thursday evening walk to the mix too. Then life and the hot weather took over. Now the weather is cooler, we have decided to start walking again. The dark nights may put a stop to the Thursday night walks but we can still walk on a Sunday morning on our usual favourite routes no problem and weather permitting of course!
Finding A Warm Coat for Outdoor Winter Exercise.
Being short and plus size and with most of my weight on my stomach makes for a tricky combination when shopping for pretty much anything never mind looking for plus size coats and jackets, especially the type of coat you need to keep you warm in the depths of the sometimes seemingly neverending winter like we had last year.
This means I’m not so much of a coat person. Not too bad when I go everywhere in the car, a bit trickier when I am out and about. I tend to go for thinner coats and shiver my way through the biting cold and wind and rain. That was, until last year. When one of my sisters managed to get me a coat that not only fit well but was flattering too.
It goes without saying that to cope with the colder weather I will need a coat that is easy and comfortable to wear as well as being able to keep me warm when I need it to, especially when I am getting some outdoor winter exercise in. This coat from Pink Clove is a perfect fit. At a size 20, it gives me enough room to feel comfortable without being too big. It is also warm enough for the British winter as well as on trend in this seasons mustard colour too. It is so nice to have a coat that not only looks good but fits well too which is really important when out and about for some winter exercise walking along the coast.
Walking for Winter Exercise and More.
Alongside reinstating our Sunday walks, I have rejoined my local council’s leisure centre pass. This means we are able to use the pools, gym, attend classes amongst many other things across 7 different sites meaning there is something for us to do every day.
Our family pass includes the same benefits for 2 adults and 2 children meaning Olivia and my eldest niece can attend classes and the gym along with us when we attend too. All we need to do is to work out a schedule of when is the best time for us to visit and what classes we would like to attend.
Recently we have been doing the odd aqua or Zumba class and these plus size lottie black leggings with white side piping are perfect for the class. But this is something all of us want to build on coming up to Christmas. Even if it is a leisurely family swim (or splash) in the pool of an evening. It all counts in getting us out of the house and active.
Hopefully, we will manage to find a schedule that works for us all and be able to etch out some time between school and our jobs to spend some time together working out or taking a class. Fingers crossed we can work towards our goal of doing some winter exercise during the colder months.
