Home Updates for 2018

This year I have made some really drastic changes to the way my house looks. As I have mentioned before, I have lived here over 6 years now and I pretty much didn’t update any of the rooms until a little over a year ago.

The house looked tired and dated.

And I needed to breathe some new life into it. Since then I have been pretty stop-start on it all, having not totally finished one room completely but completely transformed the look of 2 of my rooms. Thr living room was the first to be made over, taking the room from black and golds to light bright whites and greys. The addition of some brand new furniture after Christmas really brought out the best of the new(er) colour scheme and has given the room a whole new lease of life.

We are still putting the finishing touches on the room, we need a small circular rug on the floor and a centrepiece for our new coffee table but so far we are both pretty happy with the way things have turned out and the room is now a nice place to sit and relax.

From Princesses to Butterflies

Olivia’s room became next on my list, she was in desperate need of a more grown-up room and not the Disney Princesses she had grown up with since she was 5. She needed a room that would grow with her and we chose to emulate the look of the living room we ended up with yet more butterflies and the same hue of lilac white.

The beauty of her wallpaper means that the flashes of colour in the wallpaper will complement most colour schemes and she has chosen to go for blues around her room. Duck egg curtains and matching duvet sets for her bed and the guest bed pull it all together nicely under her new droplet style light shade which reflects more light around her newly decorated space

The addition of a daybed in place of bunk beds has really opened out her small room and I’m pretty sure as she grows and changes her room will evolve with her.

Work in Progress.

The rest of the house is a work in progress. The kitchen, however, is perfectly fine the way it is and currently, I have no plans to change anything decor-wise! Just some reconfiguration of appliances and maybe the introduction of a small breakfast bar!

This leaves me with the hall, stairs and landing, my bedroom and the bathroom.

My bedroom too, has been started, then stopped. An issue with the plaster and some ongoing work to adjoining houses put some delays on the project. I have most of the wallpaper up. Pastel coloured hearts with a 3d effect. The rest of the room will be painted a pale pink colour. Again brightening it up from the teal and brown shades currently up.

This would mean the hunt for new bedding begins along with some matching accessories and new curtains too. Currently, I have thin teal curtain as I have vertical blinds in my room, but places such as Swift Blinds have a great range I can look at before I decide on what colour and style curtain I would like to replace my current ones!

As my home office is also in my bedroom, it will give me the opportunity to tie both together with some well placed and matching accents and pictures for the walls. I am also hoping the pale pink shade compliments my walnut furniture like I imagine it will with the contrast of light and dark colours together! Fingers crossed.

White Paint with Glitter!

Is the theme for the hallway. It is so narrow, I am hoping the sparkle from the silver glitter flakes really bring some extra light to the space and open it up a little. It is desperate to be finished off and I am very nearly there!

Last but not least

The bathroom. I have no plans as of yet for the bathroom, but I am hoping my landlord decides to replace it in the very near future taking it all out my hands. If not, it will most definitely be the last room to receive some TLC!
