Growing Your Own Herbs and Vegetables
What do you grow in your garden? Is this something you have ever thought about? The thing is, you really don’t need a lot of space when it comes to growing things in your garden. you just a small section and the right tools and care for whatever you are growing. This is especially true when it comes to planting herbs and vegetables.
Growing Your Own Herbs and Vegetables.
If you are new to growing your own herbs and vegetables, start small. Pick a couple of items to try out at first and practise on those. Make sure you plant them at the correct time of year. Tomato seeds can be sown from late March to early April if you are growing them outdoors. If you choose to buy a greenhouse you can plant earlier, from February. If you are trying your hand at tomatoes; they are one of the easiest things to grow, then why not try strawberries too. They can be planted at the same time of year as they need to be well established before the warmer weather comes along during the summer months.
There is no denying that adding fresh from the garden herbs to your foods can add flavour and textures to your food that dried herbs just can’t imitate. So it makes sense that you would want to have these to hand if you enjoy creating flavoursome dishes and foods.
You can also grow your herbs indoors too. They need light so as long as they are close to a window and kept warm
Just like flowers, different herbs and even vegetables, need to be planted at different parts of the year to get the most out of them.
Buying the Right Equipment
It goes without saying that before you make a start, you need to make sure you are fully prepared and have all the necessary equipment to help you in your new venture. You may find you don’t need a lot to get started depending on what and where you are growing in your herb and/or vegetable garden but it helps to make sure you have everything you need before setting up.
Think pots, soil and plants for starters. You may also want to consider buying seedlings at first if you don’t feel confident you can grow straight from seed for your first try. Basil and parsley are known to be easy to grow and are perfect herbs to get you started.
