Fantastic for Families Events at The Victoria Gallery and Museum, Liverpool
Keeping the kids occupied over the school summer holidays can seem like an impossible task at times. As Olivia is getting older it seems like she is more content to stay home in the confines of her room. However, my younger nieces and nephews still need entertaining 24/7. But the thing with keeping kids entertained is that it can become quite expensive, can’t it! This is the issue now as we are heading into the last few weeks of their time off.
Fantastic for Families Events.

Visiting the Victoria Gallery and Museum for a Family Craft Event.
I was unaware that these sessions were taking place, we don’t often head over to Liverpool outside of the city centre. I rounded up my nieces and nephew and jumped on the train over the water to check them out. For us, the closest station was Lime Street. and we headed towards the Adelphi Hotel before heading straight up Brownlow Hill to the University buildings. It took around 10 minutes and was easier to find than expected. For those not familiar with the area as I was, it is literally over the road from the Metropolitan Cathedral.
Once we found our way it was time to head to the second floor to check out what was going on. The craft for the day had us creating shapes that represented each of the kids to make their own hieroglyph.
The craft sessions are suitable for ages up to 11 so I had K, 10, A, 6 and J, 5 with me. Although I think the older girls would have loved this too.
It wasn’t busy when we arrived at around 2 pm. This meant the kids could go to work straight away making their shapes and designs to stick onto their tubes. The session was run by volunteers who were on hand to help the kids out should they need it and chat with them about what they were doing!
Getting Stuck In!
K and A got stuck in cutting and sticking whilst J needed a little bit of prompting to get going. But once he started he threw himself in creating his own shapes. Once they had finished, it was time to create their hieroglyphics on some clay. They all loved seeing their creations and what patterns they had made when they rolled them out.

The kids loved getting stuck in and being given free rein to design whatever they wanted to. They all asked to go back another day. There is a puppet-making session coming up soon so we are hoping to head over to visit again for this one.

- 31st August 2019 – 10:15 am Film Morning. The House With The Clock in Its Walls. Drop-in craft session from 1 pm till 4 pm building your own Victoria Tower.
- 28th September 2019 – 10:15 am – Film The Night At The Museum: Secret of the Tomb. Drop-in craft session to create your own 3D animal inspired by the ‘Before Egypt’ exhibition.

A great idea to get families into museums and an enormous help for household budgets that may be stretched finding ways to entertain children during the holidays.

I live in Merseyside but was unaware of these activities. My granddaughter is still a bit young, but I’m sure she’ll enjoy these if they run them next summer.
