With the big day being only a matter of weeks away now, no doubt you are thinking about plans for the festive season and how you will be celebrating it. Are you someone that is sleeping on sofas for days as you travel round to see lots of family and friends in various locations? Or are you someone that is planning to stay at home? If that latter is you, then you may be having some guests over to stay, for the day, or just a dinner party. Either way, you will want to make sure that your home is just as you want it for entertaining.
With it being such a busy time of year, though, you are unlikely to have a lot of time to dedicate to sorting the house. So here are just some easy wins that will help you to get prepared, as well as prepare the home for guest, for however long that they plan on staying.
Purge and Clean
If you have a home that is a little cluttered at the moment, then it is only going to get more that way when Christmas comes around and there are presents galore, tins of biscuits, and Christmas cards all over the place. So starting off with a quick purge in each room can be a good idea. Fill one bag in each room (or per two rooms perhaps). Then you’ve got a good base to work from.
A deep clean is pretty much a must as well. But there are so many quick and simple tips to try that done daily, and only take a few minutes, and you’ll easily stay on top of the cleaning. Instagram accounts like Mrs Hinch Home and the Queen of Clean can be good to look at to give you some ideas, inspiration, and motivation to get cleaning more.
Plenty of Seating
When you’re going to be having more people around than normal, it will be better and more comfortable for everyone if there are plenty of places for people to sit. It could be a case of getting or borrowing some folding chairs (or perhaps getting out some garden chairs for a clean that can be brought inside). If you’ve got more of a budget and want to get some whole new furniture before the festivities begin, then looking somewhere like the Chesterfield Sofa Company could be a good idea. It can be such a nice thing to have it all in place ready for welcoming guests.
When you walk into someone’s home and it smells bad, it is something that you will always notice and remember; it can put you right off from the start. So thinking about how your home smells can sometimes be difficult when you’re there all the time but is important. Are you a scented candle kind of person? Or how about a diffuser of essential oils? Would the smell of freshly baked cookies be preferred for when people arrive? Keep is seasonal and smelling good and you’ll be onto a winner.
