Finding The Right Furniture for your Home

In a few weeks, I have been living in my current home for 7 years. This may not sound like a big deal but it is the longest time I have spent living in one house since I was 13 and we moved from our childhood home. As a renter, your home isn’t always secure especially for as long as I have lived where I am right now.

I have lived on my own since just before my 20th birthday and I have learnt over the years that there are a few things worth spending a little bit more on to be able to last you well over the years. As the queen of second-hand items, I only bought my first proper brand new sofas in January of this year. Having always had pre-loved ones in the past. I got an amazing bargain and I hope they will see me through a good few years now.

But one thing I had found you really want to spend a little bit more money and time on finding the right is furniture for your home. Again, I updated my living room furniture from oak wood to bright white look in January this year. But my previous set had lasted me a good 6 years for my living room and I still have furniture that I bought around 10 years ago in my bedroom and it still serves me well!

Looking for furniture that will not only last but fit in well with your style can really help to pull your home together and give it that little something extra that makes you happy to come home every day. Unni and Evans have a wide range of style of furniture to suit many different looks and help you achieve your vision for your home. From a Walnut Scandi Range to industrial furniture, you can source a complete look for any or all of your rooms.

For my bedroom, I would love to create a more stripped back shabby chic look. I would love a light grey laminate floor with a rug new white furniture to replace the dark walnut look I have now. My walls are a pale pink and my accessories are a grey colour, all I need to do now is replace my 10-year-old furniture with a new fresh style to completely overhaul my look.

So with my desire to recreate a more rustic/shabby chic theme for my bedroom, I am loving the Farmhouse Grey range from Unni and Evans and would adore this desk to work at!

Despite having a pretty specific theme around my home already I would love to add Unni and Evans contemporary dining chairs to my kitchen to give it that wow factor and make my small space pop. But look at this gorgeous occasional/dining chair in crushed velvet. I could give this a home in my bedroom or even my living room for relaxing in whilst I binge-watch Netflix!

Finding The Right Furniture For Your Home.

Although this can initially be a big expense, by making sure you have good quality solid wood furniture, you can enjoy the enjoy the benefits for many years to come as the likelihood is, it will last a long time before you need to replace it. Not only will it enhance your home and help you create the perfect look for your home, but it will also be functional too.

If you are looking at replacing your furniture here are a few things I learnt when replacing mine.
  • Don’t rush! You may want to change your look right now, but if you don’t do your homework this could prove a costly mistake.
  • Measure your home accordingly. My old furniture was purchased for a much bigger room before I moved to this house. it was big, bulky and overbearing. So make sure you find a look and style in a size that compliments and does not take over your rooms.
  • See if you can see your look instore or in a showroom before making your purchase. It will definitely give you a better idea of how it will look in your home.
  • Ask around and check out how other people style their homes and how they maximise their space. Or head to Pinterest for ideas on how to create your perfect look.

  1. I would love to have a beautiful home and I don’t believe you have to spend a lot of money to make your home look great, but with 8 cats and a dog, I have scratched furniture and peeling/ripped wallpaper and I can live with that because they bring so much joy into my life – show home/home full of pets – it’s a no brainer!

  2. Thank you for this, I am currently in the middle of a huge house renovation and will need some new furniture when its finished, this was helpful 🙂
