Guest Post: A DIY Christmas Wreath

A Light-Up DIY Christmas Wreath for just over £15

Hi, I’m Sam from dovecottageblog.com! I’m absolutely obsessed with all things home décor and particularly at this time of year, absolutely love making as many of my festive decorations as I can! One of the easiest makes I created this year was this little DIY Christmas wreath, which took about 20 minutes to make, for a total of £15.95! So I’ve shared exactly how I did it below.

For this DIY Christmas Wreath, you will need:

  • Wreath – I picked up this one from Hobbycraft for £4.00
  • Fairy lights – The wire ones will work best; I bought mine for £3.99 from Sainsbury’s
  • Artificial berries – Hobbycraft, £1.50
  • Pinecones
  • Ribbon – Sainsbury’s, £3.00
  • Cinnamon sticks – eBay, £1.95 for 12
  • Mini baubles – Mine came as part a larger pack from John Lewis.
  • Twine – Hobbycraft, £1.50

Method:

I started by wrapping the fairy lights around the wreath, ending up at the bottom. You’ll then be left with the battery pack, which I fixed to the back of the wreath with twine.

Then position the rest of your bits around the wreath anyhow you like, there really is no strict instructions to this – and you can add as many Christmassy pieces as you want! I found it relatively easy to push the cinnamon sticks and berries between the wreath’s sticks and tie the pine cones and baubles to use some more of the twine.

Finally, I attached a large bow to the bottom part of the wreath. This not only looks pretty but also covers up the battery pack.

I then created a hook using the twine, and you’re all done!

The beauty of this DIY Christmas wreath is the fact you can customise with everything and anything – what about some dried orange slices and mistletoe, or use some tinsel to create more of a glitzy look? Not only that you can re-use the wreath to create a seasonal display – I styled this with artificial flowers and mini eggs at Easter.
