Saving Money for Yourself This Year

One of life’s biggest challenges is saving money, and we all know how difficult it can be to save money for your family and yourself as the years go by. However, money is important for many reasons, whether it be as an emergency fund if something happens, fund your lifestyle, or put toward your future. There are many reasons people need and save money, and today we want to talk about how you can do it well.

Here’s how you can save money this year and fund the things that are important to you.

Consider freelancing

One way to save some money is to consider taking on extra work throughout the week. We all know how stressful it can be to work a full-time job, and the idea of taking on extra work is hard. However, if you were to take on a few small jobs a week, such as social media management, graphic design, or writing – you could look to make extra money that can be set aside for the important things in your life. Just make sure you understand how the tax will impact the money you make through these methods.

Drive less

One of the ways that you can save money and be more healthy is to drive less and walk more. When you choose to drive less throughout the week, this will greatly impact you and the money you spend. Fuel is expensive, and the price of it is ever on the rise, so you need to consider walking more, and you’ll save the environment and your wallet at the same time.

Open a high-interest savings account

There are many different places you can store your money, such as a current account, multi currency account, or even an ISA – but the easiest way to set aside money is with a savings account. It is important for you to open a high-interest savings account if you don’t already have one, as this will help you put money aside and make extra through interest. Once you have an account set up, you can set up a direct debit to go out of your account each month that will top up your savings without you having to do a thing. This method will ensure that money is always being saved, preventing you from spending it all.

Make a spreadsheet

If you know you can be forgetful or often pick up bad habits regarding spending; it is a great idea for you to make a spreadsheet where you can track what you spend every day. Add a column for the date, a column for incoming, one for outgoing, and one for your total account balance and savings account balance. As you spend money through the day, you can add this in, and it will start to give you a clear picture of your habits. As you start to see this spending happen, it should hopefully act as a deterrent and stop you from spending too much in the future. The key is to hold yourself accountable, and often this will help you save.

Eat at home

If you often get takeaways or eat out at restaurants – consider a change in your habits and make homecooked meals fun for the family. Of course, you can still make a show of your meals by sitting at the table with a couple of drinks, but the difference is that you’ll be making food that suits your taste and is much healthier overall.

Consider a healthier lifestyle.

Speaking of healthier – one way to save money is to consider a lifestyle change. For example, eating junk food and drinking alcohol are both key contributors to an empty wallet – and you can prevent this from being an issue by eating more vegetables and sticking to water and juice. In addition, you would be surprised how much money you can save by eating healthier and choosing to exercise, and you’ll be a happier person for it.

Save on bills

If you are a homeowner, one important thing to do is to compare your bills online with other providers. Don’t settle for using the same old provider every year because often, you’ll be spending a hefty chunk more than you need to. Consider instead using a comparison site to take advantage of introductory rates and always check for the best possible deals to save you spending money you don’t have to spend.
