4 Amazing Health Benefits Of Going Outside

Spending time outside is one of the most significant health hacks in the world. It’s such a simple thing to do, yet it can have many excellent health benefits. Today, we’ll take a look at four of the biggest benefits of going outside and spending time outdoors. Hopefully, you’ll feel encouraged to start getting up and enjoying more time out in the open!

Relieves stress

Being outside is closely linked to stress relief. This tends to happen as you feel so much more relaxed when you’re out in the open. The sounds and scenes of nature have a calming influence on your body and mind. In turn, you start releasing hormones that make you feel happy and less tense. It’s no secret that people are told to take long walks if they’re constantly uptight and stressed about something.

You can take long walks every day, after dinner for example. But have you ever considered booking a walking holiday in Switzerland? This is the ultimate way to relieve stress, feel more relaxed, and all of that during a holiday!’

Lowers your blood pressure

High blood pressure is a pretty common and severe problem in modern society. Lots of people suffer from it, and it can directly lead to all sorts of heart complications. Well, being outside can counter this as it will help you lower your blood pressure. Walking is a brilliant form of exercise as it’s easy on your joints but still trains your cardiorespiratory system. In essence, you get fitter, which helps to lower your blood pressure. Of course, the previous point about relieving stress will also contribute to a lower blood pressure reading.

Get your daily dose of vitamin D.

Vitamin D is such a vital vitamin that we all need in our system. It mainly helps with immune function, calcium absorption, and protecting bone and muscle health. Unfortunately, if you stay inside a lot, you may have a vitamin D deficiency. This is because one of the best and only ways of getting it is through the sun. So, this is the perfect excuse to go outside! You don’t even need to go for a long walk, get some garden furniture and sit outside for half an hour or so each day. You’ll boost your vitamin D intake, which will benefit your all-around health.

Improves joints, bone health & balance

Finally, spending time outdoors walking around can improve your joints, bone health, and balance. We’ve spoken a bit about bone health above, as a good dose of vitamin D will benefit them. However, walking around outdoors – or running – can improve your muscle mass and tone, which also keeps your bones stronger and firmer. This can minimize the risk of breaking bones as you get older. Similarly, being out and about is suitable for your balance as you’re used to walking everywhere. Again, this is beneficial when you’re older as you’re less likely to fall over.

To summarize, you really need to get up and go outdoors! Being outside will be good for both your mental and physical health, and that’s a fact. So, if you’re looking for a straightforward health hack that will improve your life, here it is! It has a plethora of health benefits and no drawbacks at all.

Excellent article – I now only too well how staying in through lockdown can cause damage. I was not allowed even to the supermarket as I was just out of chemo – when lockdown ended, I had a blood test as a baseline for calcium to begin bone strengthening injections and my vit D was non-existent. I had to start on supplements before I could resume cancer treatment. The high strength vit d tablets they put me on made me feel an instant improvement in pain and mood – thus I know first-hand that getting into the sun is so important to us.
