6 Summer Savings Tips That Won’t Burn your Budget

The summer is finally here.

For many people, that means more opportunities to get outside and spend money on everything from lavish BBQs to drinks with friends. If you have a family of your own, then your children are likely to be away from school too, which means that you have the added pressure of keeping them entertained to deal with.

While the summer is an amazing time of year for many people, it’s also one that can end up seriously burning your budgeting strategy. To help you get by with a cool head, we’ve put together these simple summer savings tips for saving during summer.

Make the Most of the Outdoors

When it comes to free entertainment, the world is your oyster during summer. When the sun is shining, you don’t need to pay for expensive tickets to a movie or a nearby theme park to ensure you and the kids have fun. Something as simple as a trip to the local park, a beach excursion or a hiking trip could be enough to give you some amazing memories.

Check the temperature before you leave the house and pack plenty of supplies, including sun lotion, water to keep you hydrated, snacks, and even meals if you’re planning on staying out for a while.

Spread out the Cost of Holidays

If you’re thinking of going on a family holiday, the summer can be one of the most expensive times to get away. However, it’s also one of the most convenient options because your kids will be off school, and it means they won’t miss any important lessons. If you want to take advantage of a deal as quickly as possible, a loan could be the best way to spread out the cost of your holidays over an extended period.

Just ensure you’re getting a good deal on the trip and the loan. With just a bit of research online, you can find plenty of ways to reduce the costs of a great excursion. For instance, find out if it’s cheaper to buy flights and a hotel together or separately.

Research Free Events

Local councils know that it’s often hard for parents to keep their kids entertained during the summer break. That’s why you’ll find countless local festivals, fairs, and other exciting things to do when the weather gets a little bit warmer. All you need to do to find out what’s available is to join a local group on social media or search for information about your town or area online.

Make sure that you mark days on your calendar for when musical events, strawberry festivals, and even craft fairs are running. You’ll have plenty to do in no time.

Contribute to a Car Boot Sale

Want to keep the kids entertained and make a little extra money at the same time? Have your children help you sort through the attic one day for anything you might be able to sell at a car boot sale. There are sales like these all over the country, and it usually only costs a few pounds to get involved and set up a table. It’s a great way to keep everyone busy for a few days if you include the time that you spend searching for things to sell.

Additionally, a car boot sale is a chance to get rid of unwanted clutter and make a little extra cash on the things that you no longer want.

Dry your Clothes Outside

If you’re used to relying on your tumble dryer to dry your clothes during the winter months, now is the perfect time to take advantage of the great outdoors instead. When the sun is shining, hang your clothes up outside and let them dry naturally instead. The summer breeze will do the work of your drying machine for you and save you some serious cash.

If you can’t handle hanging your clothes outside, then you can always try using your dryer on a lower heat temperature, or just partially drying your clothes and allowing them to air dry the rest of the way.

Cycle More Often

Finally, rather than driving everywhere during the summer, why not give your legs a workout and do some cycling instead? Cycling can be a fun way to get to and from work each day, and it will help you to lose weight and improve your health too. Additionally, you won’t have to spend nearly as much on fuel to keep your vehicle running.

If you don’t have a bike and you don’t want to invest in one, then walking is a great option too!

What do you swear by as your summer savings tips whilst the kids are off school? I would love to know!
