I have officially lived in my house for 10 years now! This is the longest I have lived anywhere since we moved from my first home at 13! During this time, we have accumulated a lot over the years. The last few months of 2021 saw me decluttering and sorting out long-neglected spaces in the house. However, for 2022, it is all about the details and making the home, even more, our own and doing the things I have been putting off, including my bedroom and changing my bedroom decor style to freshen it up a little bit.

I don’t know about you, but my bedroom is often overlooked and the last place to be decorated. I have no idea why but the rest of the house is always more important than my bedroom, which is arguably one of the most used rooms in the house.

As I have spent more and more time blogging and writing, I have incorporated a desk into my bedroom and changed the layout frequently. However, since moving in 10 years ago, I have only redecorated once in this time, and that was just before Olivia’s 12th birthday, which was nearly 4 years ago. Her bedroom, however, has been done 3 times since moving in, the last time a couple of years ago.

The only room neglected as much as my bedroom is the kitchen which I guarantee will be done before my room gets done.

But while it is in desperate need of some TLC and a massive overhaul, there are some small changes I can make to my bedroom to give it a new lease of life. Especially now my desk is back in the bedroom from the living room, and I am keeping it here for the foreseeable future.

Until the time comes to get some new wallpaper up (ironically, I have it already, yet to be put up!) and give it a fresh lick of paint, I am going to spruce it up somewhat with some soft furnishings and bedroom decor items to help it become cosier and comfortable as best as I can when I work and sleep in the same room.

Rugs

My carpet is super worn, but my main issue with replacing it is that I have nowhere for everything to go when I need to clear the room out to lay the new carpet. It is a tiny house, and getting a kingsize bed, large desk and bedroom furniture out will be a massive challenge. So, for now, I will invest in a rug to help cover the carpet until I am ready to replace it.

Bedding

I think we can all agree bedding is a massive part of your bedroom decor and should be treated as such. I have had the same bedding for years now, so I can update my duvet covers and pull my colour scheme together with a new rug. My current colour scheme is pale pinks and whites, so I will most likely keep to these colours.

Shelves

One thing I do not have in my bedroom is any shelving. No idea why not, but there we go! I dare to say that adding shelving will allow me to add pictures, plants, and more to the room to give it some personality and cover up the bare walls. As we are currently adding shelving to different parts of the house, this is likely to be part of the plans for my room too.

Wardrobe

At this time, I do not have a wardrobe. Instead, I have a hanging rail set up in my alcove with fabric boxes acting as shelves. Right now, this works for me. My chest of drawers/TV stand separates the “wardrobe space” from the rest of the room, but still, at times, it can be unsightly and messy. So to combat this, I am thinking of adding dramatic floor-length curtains across the front of the alcove – there is a lamp in this section too, so it will hide the mess and give off a better aesthetic. What do you think will a strategically placed curtain add to my bedroom decor and style?

Accessories

Lastly, I’m not one for many accessories. We don’t have any need for pillows and even though we have decorative ones in both bedrooms, they usually end up being tossed and discarded. However, I would like to bring some ornaments, photos and plants into my room. So once I have arranged for some shelving to go up, I can complete the look with some pictures or art hung around the room.

My Bedroom Decor Ideas for 2022

Big plans for this year for my bedroom. While I might not get around to changing the wallpaper and repainting, I think adding in some small changes to the room’s look and feel can help make it a nicer space to work and relax until I do manage to get it redecorated.
