I done it! I actually redecorated! I know right, ever the procrastinator but this time I put my words into action and and the rest is history. Well, not quite, the rest is this blog post. This, in my own little story about my journey from drab to fab!
One upon a time……..
There was a slightly goofball neurotic mum of one who, basically, was a tad too lazy for her own good. Let’s be honest, if she could get out of doing anything and everything she would. Then 5 years ago she moved house. After fulfilling her only daughters Christmas wish to live in a house with stairs and a garden, she realised dreams don’t come this easy. They really don’t after all Cinderella she absolutely was not.
With one small week to move, a full time job half an hours drive away 5 days, the task of packing up one house and decorating the other top to bottom seemed daunting. In fact to this day she still has no idea how she done it. Did she even sleep? Who knows. But she managed it. There was no time to choose colour schemes, matching accessories or even flooring. If it was cheap it was in and up quicker than a wave of the fairy godmothers wand or down in case of the flooring obvs!
And so she lived that like, happily going about her life for next few years. Opting to buy a carpet cleaner to avoid the expense of new carpets, did I say she cheap, and tight because she is, the house became tired and let’s face the walls were a little bit on the grubby side. The fresh new house look had long since disappeared along with any urge to do anything about it.
That was until one day she spotted this super cute butterfly wallpaper in Wilko’s. She would have purchased it on the spot only some idiot called Concentrix decided to stop all of her money and of all the things she needed right then, wallpaper was really low on her list of priorities. She blogged about it, and stared at it every time she went into Wilko’s. She also filled her online basket with the stuff too, you know just for fun. Things remained like this for months and months and months. Around 5 if Instagram is too be believed!
Then one day, whilst killing time on her lunch break at work, she spotted the last two rolls of the much coveted butterfly wall covering and on a whim bought it. Just like that. 5 minutes later she found herself at the till with 2 rolls of aforementioned paper, 1 tin of stardust paint and all the tools (cheapest of course) required for a successful decorating endeavour.
Knowing how completely crap she was at putting things into action she was determined to get this sorted before Christmas. And so she spent her Saturday night elbows deep in stardust wishing her glasses had window wipers to brush away the speckles of paint that she was sure should be all over the walls and not herself. But to her surprise some of the 2.5l tin had made it to the walls. Despite having worked a 10 hour shift that day she was pretty chuffed with herself even with the obvious gaps she had missed.
Sunday saw the butterflies finally make it up on the walls, with the help of her sister and a sense of peace (for a fleeting moment anyway) and happiness at her achievement in finally getting off her lazy backside and getting the damn room sorted.
While it’s still not finished just yet, I have my sofa in the middle of the room while I attempt to fit vertical blinds (don’t ask) and yes the Christmas tree is up already (again don’t ask) I am pretty happy with the improvements just from a complete change of colour scheme in my living room. What do you think? Not bad for 24 hours is it!
