Hobbies for Creative People

Can you believe we have passed one year since the beginning of lockdown 1! It was Olivia’s birthday weekend, and our plans to celebrate were ruined. Still, she handled it like a champ just as she did this past weekend as we celebrated her 15th birthday with doorstep visits and copious amounts of cake and Marvel branded items.

With all the change and uncertainty over the past year, it makes sense that people have looked at ways to change their lives, homes, hobbies, careers and more. I have seen huge amounts of pressure from articles stating that now is the time to achieve something, and if you don’t somehow better yourself during the lockdown, then it is a waste. That is something I do not agree with at all.

Simply surviving lockdown and getting through this past year is more than OK in my books. Since catching COVID myself this year back in January, I have been on furlough, and I am loving having time to myself and not having to go to work. As an introvert, I am built for lockdown life and relish the fact that I can stay at home.

But all this extra time has given me the chance to finally get some changes made to the blog and look at ways to take my writing, especially my creative writing, to the next level. I know I have that novel in me somewhere. I need the tools to turn my ideas into something people will actually want to read. There is something calming and centring for me when I have written a completely new and unique piece of fiction, be it for me or a new series for the blog.

But how can I do that? I actually purchased a writing course that not only can help me write that novel but can help me with the day to day writing I do for clients and on the blog. The course covers blog writing, creative writing, journalism, writing a book and a wide range of other sections to improve my writing with a qualification at the end of it.

Now I have a dedicated blog for my writing. I can look back as I go through the course and see how my writing has changed.

Some of my favourite series I have written include;

I am not the only person who has decided to lean into my writing hobby and explore more of my creative side. In fact, during lockdowns in the UK, many people have really developed a love for creative hobbies. They have been indulging in creative ventures to help them pass the time or give them something to focus on during all the changes we have been experiencing recently.

Creativity isn’t just limited to drawing and writing. There are so many ways you can be creative, and so many different mediums you can use to express your inner creativity. Searches for creative hobbies has seen a massive increase recently. I would imagine this is down to people wanting to find different ways to express themselves and find something they love to do.

Creative hobbies that people are taking up include;

  • knitting,
  • baking,
  • embroidery,
  • scrapbooking,
  • songwriting
  • upcycling
  • and more.

There are so many benefits to being able to explore your creative side. Creativity can help you to relax and give you something to focus on amidst all the doom and gloom that we ave been living through recently. There is something to be said for having a hobby you can use to shut the world out and allows you to have an outlet for whatever you are dealing with or going through.

If you struggle with change or need something that can help you fill up your free time, there are so many hobbies for creative people you can lean to help you find an outlet that works for you and becomes something you love and enjoy doing.

I have been a lot of baking and cooking my own meals throughout the lockdowns. As well as being a good habit to get into, it is a very enjoyable and satisfying experience.
