Easy Ways to De-clutter Your Bathroom

Family bathrooms are busy places. During the course of a normal day, everyone is going to use it several times. It is a room that sees a lot of footfall. So, unsurprisingly, it can get pretty messy, especially if five people leave their soap, flannels, toothbrushes, towels, cosmetics and beauty product lying around.

If your bathroom is looking depressingly untidy, right now, read on. Below I have put together a few tips to help you to de-clutter it and return it to some semblance of order.

Install a good cabinet

Bathroom cabinets are a great place to put all of those items that are used practically every day. When you put things in an under sink cabinet they are out of sight, but still handy. There are all kinds available from retailers like better bathrooms, so it really is not hard to find one that fits in with the style of your bathroom.

To get the most out of the space and make things as practical as possible, fill the back of the cupboard with large items. For example, toilet rolls, spare cotton buds, bottles of shampoo soap, and maybe a stack of hand towels. This leaves the space at the front of the cupboard for those items everyone needs to have close at hand. For example, shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel.

If you set things up in this way you can get everyone to put these things away once they have finished their bath or shower. This is much better than these items being left on the edge of the bath or on the floor of the shower. When everyone puts everything away, it becomes far easier to clean the bathroom.

Get a laundry basket

For some families, putting a laundry basket in the bathroom is a good idea. Get everyone into the habit of putting their damp towels in there instead of leaving them on the floor. Taking this approach also ensures that damp towels do not end up getting mixed into the regular laundry, where they can create mould.

Install some hooks

Giving everyone a hook for their towel and flannel is a good idea. Of course, you can use a towel rail. But, very few towel rails are designed to take more than two or three towels. If you are a family of five, inevitably your towels end up overwhelming the rack and everything looks higgledy-piggledy.

Put a couple of hooks on the back of the door too. This gives everyone somewhere to hang their dressing gown. Doing this should stop them from forgetting to take their robe with them when they leave the bathroom.

Consider installing some drawers

Consider adding a set of drawers to your bathroom. The unit does not necessarily have to be that big, but if you can look for one that will enable you to assign one drawer to each family member. That way they can use it to stow away their own toiletries, beauty products, soaps, bath bombs etc.
