4 Reasons Adults Are Afraid to Learn Again
Any adult trying to better their future knows that the biggest key to doing better is in learning. The problem is that most adults have got to the point where they feel that they have all the education that they need. The idea of going back to school to do something new, or to further their existing career is scary and overwhelming, and it’s in that moment they talk themselves out of it.
The back to school worries aren’t just for children, you know! Anyone who wants to better themselves and do something different has to start somewhere, and while it’s a scary prospect, it’s one that’s going to get you out of your comfort zone and skilling up is going to have so many benefits. You get to stay ahead of the curve, and if you ever want to do better in your future – no matter your present – you need to learn where you can make changes.
There are so many reasons that you could be heading back to a school environment, whether that’s night classes for an NVQ or Norwich University for a full degree in the dream job you’ve been sitting on. Adults need some good advice to make sure that they go back and do the work to get them where they want to go. Below, we’ve got four of the most common reasons that adults are afraid to learn – let’s take a look.
Adults Say… They’re Too Busy
If you ever try to do anything, you’re going to find things get in the way. Balancing your current life with your job and your family is hard enough – fit in an extra stretch at education and you’re going to feel overwhelmed and swamped. You are not going to transform your life just by thinking about how busy you are. You have to make the time. If you have a goal, you will always hit it if you take the time to get around how busy you are.
Adults Say…They Can’t Afford It
Currently, we are very lucky to live in a time where there are options to pay for an education. There are financial support packages with a variety of learning institutions to make it work. You can also pull overtime at work and save up where you can to pay for it. Affordability is relative today and there is always help available for those who ask for it.
Adults Say…It’s Intimidating
Doing anything new is intimidating, whether it’s school or something else. It’s uncomfortable to venture out of your comfort zone, and the one comfort you should have is that you’re not the only one. Everyone starting school again is going to feel the same worries and vulnerabilities, so remember that you are one of many and own your future.
Adults Say…It Won’t Help
You may think that the education that you plan to take isn’t going to help your career further. The thing is until you try, you won’t know! Always give it a try and see before you judge what will help or won’t.
