It may only be the start of the year, but many of us will already be thinking about where the months ahead will take us. If you’re looking for inspiration for fabulous family holidays, here are some ideas to consider.

Beach holidays

If rainy days and dark afternoons have got you dreaming of the beach, you’re not alone. Many of us look forward to escaping grey skies and basking in the warm glow of the sunshine. If you’re keen to enjoy a beach break in 2020, there’s an ever-growing list of family-friendly options out there. From perennial hotspots like Spain, Turkey and Portugal to emerging crowd-pleasers like Croatia, Sardinia and Montenegro, it’s possible to find a location to suit every taste.

When searching for a beach holiday, think about the kind of break you’re looking for and what kinds of facilities, amenities and activities you’d like to have access to. Are you up for escaping it all and marooning yourself on a beach for a week, or are you looking for kids’ clubs, bars or water parks? Do some research to narrow down your options and read reviews before making a decision. It’s a good idea to explore different dates and compare prices between operators to make sure you get the best deal.

Camping isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it can be a great way of getting out and about and enjoying a family break without blowing the budget. If you love to be outdoors, there’s nothing better than hiking, kayaking or horseback riding and then settling down to a hearty dinner under the stars toasting marshmallows and chatting.

There’s a fantastic range of campsites and caravan parks scattered around the UK, or you could look at taking a short flight or driving to France. If you camp on a regular basis, or you love to roam free whenever you get some time off, it might be worth exploring the option of buying a caravan or motorhome. You can take advantage of motorhome finance or browse second-hand vehicles to find a home away from home that will enable you to take more breaks and save money in the long-run.

City breaks might not spring to mind when you talk about child-friendly holidays, but they can be a brilliant option for kids, especially older children. Many popular city break destinations provide a vast array of things to see and do for kids, and you can combine sightseeing with chilling out and enjoying the sunshine if you choose a city located by the coast. Examples include Lisbon, Barcelona, Valencia and Nice.

Rome is another excellent option if you have children who are interested in history and the adventures of emperors and gladiators. If you are visiting a city, plan ahead and create an itinerary to save time and ensure you tick all the must-sees off your list. Booking museum and attraction tickets online can also save money and enable you to skip the queues.

Are you thinking about where to go for your fabulous family holidays? Whether you’re keen to hit the beach, enjoy cultural activities or brave the elements, hopefully, this guide has given you food for thought.
