A Dark Vintage Style For Your Living Room

Stylish and cheap, what could be better than that? Well, the fact that it’s actually pretty easy to pull off, and a lot of the elements are much better for the environment as well. In fact, just read my post below to find out how to craft, upcycle, shop, and thrift your way to a dark vintage style living room that’s easy on your wallet too.

Sumptuous seating

Seen those velvet sofas that are all the rage in vintage style decor at the moment? Well, you can be sure that buying one brand new will set you back a pretty penny. Instead, use them as inspiration and scour preloved stores online and IRL for sofa styles like Chesterfields, or anything else suitably imposing.

You don’t have to worry too much about the colour of the fabric or leather here either. Just as long as the sofa is in decent condition. The reason being that you can actually paint your sofa once you have it. Something that means you can pick from a rich tone, or a deep jewel tone depending on what suits your living room best.

Vintage style flooring

Next, if you want to pull off an awe-inspiring vintage look, you need to pay attention to the flooring. Probably the best way to do this is to go for hardwood floors in a darker tone like walnut. Then you can place a rug over the top for comfort, warmth, and of course, that perfect look.

In fact, you may be lucky enough to find a vintage rug on eBay or in a charity shop. Although, do remember that because of the popularity of this style, the chances of that are very slim indeed.

Happily, there is another option, and it’s choosing something like one of these aged style extra large rugs for your living room. An item that will set off your vintage theme perfectly, and that won’t break the bank either.

Seductive soft furnishings

Next, to really ace the dark vintage look, you need to layer the room with plenty of seductive soft furnishings. This means fabrics such as velvet, velour, faux fur, and even super-soft wool. Of course, it is entirely possible to go out and find these fabrics in curtains, cushions covers, and the like. Although you will also find that such items are not cheap.

Therefore, instead, why not have a go at crafting them yourself? Something that the tutorials like these can help you with. In fact, you can even thrift the fabric from vintage curtains and bedsheets and upcycle it into soft furnishings for your living rooms that will not only look the part but be a darned sight cheaper too.

Opulent Decor

Finally, to complete your dark vintage living room, you need to decorate with the right objet d’art. In fact, my favourite tip here is to head to the thrift store once again and find some dramatic pieces like picture frames and lamp bases.

Then take home and spray with aged gold metallic paint. An activity that will potentially save you £100s, and save the items from going into landfill too. Oh, and of course, they will be the pièce de résistance to your dark vintage decor as well.
