What to Look for in a Family Car
When looking for a new car for the family there are a few really obvious things that people look for. Space is a huge factor as your family grows, it’s not just them who get bigger but, the number of things they have too. Then there’s the all-important safety factor too because of course, you want to keep your family safe. If you’re not sure which kind of car you want then here are a few pointers to help you out.
Type Of Car
Depending on your family size or what you need the car for, you need to decide if you want a three-door or a five-door car. You also have the option of sliding doors too which can be really handy for getting car seats in and out. A smaller car can be a useful runaround, so if you’re looking for your main family car or an additional one to just go to the shops in then your needs will vary – however either one, you’ll still have the kids in and might sometimes need more than just somewhere for them to sit.
Space
As mentioned, space is a massive factor. Do you need to be able to fit a pushchair in the boot? Or if your kids are older than that, they’ll still have bags. Then there’s the weekly shop to consider, or having room for the dog and of course when you go on holiday.
Cost
Assuming you have already worked out a budget for the car and know how much you want to spend, you also need to consider the running costs of the car too. Are you getting a new or used car? Fox Hayes Car Sales have both and have a wide range of makes and models. Before you commit to anything, find out about fuel consumption as a fuel-efficient vehicle will save you a lot of money in the long term. Then there’s the insurance too, as having a smaller engine will make it cheaper for you to insure.
Safety
As previously mentioned, safety is one of the most important things to consider when buying a family car and you can find out the details of crash test results on the Euro NCAP site. It’s a good idea to do some research and find out which car is the safest and why but make sure it meets your other requirements too.
Entertainment
If your budget allows it then there are some great ways you can get entertainment in cars these days and this is perfect for kids on long journeys. High-tech car interiors not only provide systems like satellite navigation and the ability to answer your phone and even read out your messages but they now have advanced music and movie systems too. Some you can even link to Alexa. DVD screens on the back of seats are another added luxury but one your kids will not only thank you for but you’ll thank yourself for on those long journeys where you’ll actually be getting some peace and quiet rather than a constant cry of ‘Are we nearly there yet?’.
