Top Workout Tips for Busy Mothers

It’s true that your life changes forever when you become a mother. Between preparing meals playing with your kids and even putting them to bed, you may find that your schedule suddenly becomes loaded with responsibilities that you might never have thought of. This can leave you feeling a bit stuck when it comes to fitness, as you may not have the time or the energy to workout. This is understandable, but there are things you can do to start putting yourself first without compromising your family.

Workout Early in the Morning

When you have a lot on, you may find that you end up losing motivation for the things you once loved. Working out usually falls into this category. If you exercise early on, or first thing in the morning then this will help you to feel as though you have less on your to-do list. The endorphins you get from working out will also give you the energy you need.  If you find it hard to work out in the morning because you struggle with back pain or joint issues then now could be a good time for you to visit a physiotherapist, as they can help you to get to the root of the issue.

Connect with Others

Surrounding yourself with like-minded people who are experiencing very similar struggles to you, will help your mental health. Whether they are your best friends, or gym members who happen to go to the same workout classes, you need to make sure that you have a solid sense of community around you. If you don’t then you may find that you struggle more than you need.

Involve your Kids

Combine your workouts with your kids. Depending on their age, you can ask them to count your reps and you can also get them to join in with your planks. Some people even hold their kids as weights, so make sure that you keep this in mind as you may notice that it helps you to keep them entertained.

Teach your Kids About Special Time

If your kids are not old enough to join you at the gym then this is understandable. Explain to them that your workout is your special time and make sure that you reward them if they are compliant. A lot of parents find it hard to teach their kids about their own private time because they feel selfish for doing so. This is understandable, but it’s so important. Your kids will grow up to be more respectful if you teach them lessons like this early on.

Keep a Gym Bag

Busy mothers often have bags full of stuff for their kids. Why not do it for yourself? Get a bag and fill it full of gym equipment or gear. If you can do this then you are bound to see an improvement in how motivated you feel when getting ready for the gym, so make sure that you keep that in mind. It’ll work wonders for your motivation levels.
