Olivia’s Milestones

Olivia gave herself some good news this week. After coming home from school with a new reading book she proudly told me that after this one she will now be a free reader and man was she proud.

Like most schools, she reads from a chosen selection of books all graded at different levels. She reads as many as she wants to each week we aim for a minimum of one mainly due to my work schedule but usually do three on a good week

I had noticed a while back she was getting really bored and was struggling to read them as the weren’t holding her attention,

‘but mum, they’re so boring!’ she says all the time! If I’m honest I actually have to agree with her on this one.

but she has to read them as per the curriculum so I persevered and I am so pleased she has finally reached her last one.

Being a free reader means she gets her pick of books from the school library , which she has told me includes some of her favourite books! I hope this will now encourage a love of reading,as she is only restricted by her own imagination and is able to read and enjoy more books.

I’m so proud of how well she is doing and how much she enjoys reading, she really loves to get involved in the stories discussing them and pondering on what will happen next. I remember how excited I was when I finished reading allocated books at school and being free to read what ever I want and it seems Olivia is just as excited too.

Another milestone checked off for Olivia and a proud mummy moment for me!

Spread the love
