Olivia has always enjoyed reading. As a baby she loved looking at books and pictures and being read too.
Her favourites started with the various Disney stories, then as she got older she developed a love for any stories that rhymed, funny ones and today she still prefers this type of story. Her favourite ones tho were the Aliens Love Underpants books. I admit I quite enjoyed them too.
She developed a taste for all all kinds of stories and loved going to the library, these days she prefers to own her own books this way if she likes it she doesn’t have to return it. The only problem is tho, she can be quite fussy, as she is with most things, and will only read what she wants to so sometimes I have to indirectly persuade her to read something I think she will enjoy.
As she’s gotten older her reading skills have come on leaps and bounds. She reads with such interest and expression and you can tell she’s enjoying the story and it really comes across when she reads aloud.
Something I have noticed when she reads is that she likes to read the page to herself before reading aloud, I’m not sure why maybe she’s too impatient to wait, maybe she’ wants to know how to read it aloud so she gets it right but it’s so nice to watch her she really gets into the stories especially if she has chosen them herself. I have to admit I don’t really envy her reading the old fashioned school books she comes home with but we do substitute them with some of our own.
So, what are her favourite books right now?
For christmas she actually got 3 different sets of new books. The Rainbow Fairies Series, a collection of Dr. Suess stories and a bag of Miles Kelly stories. It’s safe to say that she has enough books to keep her going for a while.
She is loving the Dr. Suess books she finds them fun and easy to read and I am forever finding them all over the house. Including propped up by her dolls so they can read them while she’s at school!
I just love that she’s the same as me. A total bookworm and she gets so much fun and joy from reading!
