What Is The Best Type of Flooring for My Home?

As the redecoration continues throughout my house, the last thing I will be thinking about is flooring. The current carpets I have now, I had put down in the days leading up to me moving in. The house was empty, it was a rush job and as I was on a limited budget, there was no underlay.

I opted for laminate flooring for my living room, lino for the kitchen and bathroom and carpet for the rest the house. To this day I haven’t replaced them, instead invested in a good carpet cleaner. But time has come to be thinking about getting them replaced. With the living room now pretty much done it will be top of my list to have the current flooring replaced along with my hall stairs and landing area.

But what is the best type of flooring for my Home?

Initially, I went for laminate in the living room as Olivia was younger and both of us are a little bit on the clumsy side! It made sense at the time to have laminate installed. But now I have changed my colour scheme and all my furniture. I am thinking a different flooring option may be more suitable for us.

The brown wood effect flooring is suddenly at odds with my black and silver sofa and white furniture to compliment my white wallpaper with silver butterfly sketches on. As well as being tired and outdated, it also looks out of place due to all the recent changes. There are a few ideas I have in mind that I have been toying with. As of yet, I am unable to make up my mind.

The idea that makes the most sense to me is to replace it with carpet. I was thinking a nice silver colour with a hint of sparkle to it. That being said, as clumsy as we are, this colour would need to be cleaned regularly to keep it looking nice and fresh.

Another option I have been toying with is to replace the laminate with real wood flooring. I am not keen on having laminate down again but I love the idea of a grey or whitewashed wood floor. This would really pull the room together I think. Especially with the addition of an accent colour rug placed under my round coffee table in the centre of the room! What do you think?

For the rest of the house…..

The kitchen and bathroom will keep their lino-covered floor and for now. I may look to refresh in the future but they are both still perfectly fine for now.

The bedrooms will keep the carpets that are down for the time being. The plan is to replace them with carpet depending on how they are decorated when the time comes. It is a little bit awkward as we don’t have the space to store all our furniture elsewhere in the house whilst either of the bedrooms are being recarpeted!

But my hallway is nearly finished in a white colour with silver glitters mixed in and I would love to find something that really compliments the walls to help me create the illusion of a bright and spacious place.

Again, I am thinking wood flooring, possibly in the same colour as the front room to carry on the look for the downstairs area with again a silver or grey coloured carpet carrying on up the stairs and onto the landing area. A few of my neighbours have wooden flooring down in their hallways and it really does look great so I am definitely considering following suit.

Of course, it will be a little while before I get completely finished and replacing the flooring and carpets is a big job so I have time to weigh up my options and make my mind up, but I would love for what I pick to be able to last me for as long as my current carpets have done thus far!

What type of flooring do you have around your home and is there anything you would never consider?
