How Working Out Can Improve Your Life

To many, working out seems like a necessary evil. One that often feels eviler than it does necessarily! A huge factor contributing to many people’s push-and-pull relationship with exercise is the belief that working out is all about looking better. The problem with that mindset?

Most human beings value much more profound things than just looking good in a bikini three months out of the year—which means at some point, the challenge of working out seems far less important than the pleasure of relaxing on the couch with a good book. However, if you look at the other benefits exercise offers, you may feel a lot more motivation to get that workout in. Sure, you’re thinking, working out is healthy. But how exactly?

Improve your Life and Your Body By Working Out

Your body is a complex system of interconnecting elements. When you add activity to an otherwise sedentary lifestyle, you improve yourself physically in many ways. Cardiovascular exercise strengthens your heart and improves its ability to pump blood throughout your body. That blood flow affects every system in your body, from lowering your blood pressure, bad cholesterol, and blood sugar to rejuvenating your skin and your cells’ health.

Also, working out has been shown to improve your immunity and increase your ability to ward off disease by causing changes in your antibodies and flushing out unhealthy bacteria. Exercise is linked to lower incidences of cancer and can mitigate the effects of diabetes by increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin. And in case you needed another physical reason to add exercise—working out regularly has been proven to increase libido in women and both libido and performance in men.

Your Mental Health and Exercise

But we all knew exercise was good for the body, right? Perhaps even more motivating are the changes regular exercise can do for your mind and mental health. Your mind is key to help you improve your life.

Exercise reduces stress hormones. And who doesn’t have a ton of stress hormones? Adding a thirty-minute jog or workout session to your day can seriously reduce your anxiety level and improve your mood.  Your ability to feel calm and content consequently affects how you interact with others. Also, the increased blood flow from exercise improves brain function, which leads to improved cognition and sharpness, and studies have even shown that working out leads to higher levels of creativity

Exercise Improves Sleep

Another great benefit of working out? Sleeping. Exercise can reduce the amount of time you spend tossing and turning in bed, waiting to fall asleep, and increases the amount of time you spend in the restorative deep sleep stage. And who doesn’t need more sleep, seriously?

Improve your Life with Exercise

Help yourself live a long, healthy, happy life by adding an exercise routine to your routine. The past year (read: the pandemic) has been detrimental to many people’s activity levels. If you’ve been moving less than you used to, the idea of working out might still be daunting. Start small by incorporating bike-riding, yoga, and hiking. Or get yourself going with your own online personal trainer at expertpt.co.uk. However you begin, the more you stick with it, the fitter you’ll feel. And, yeah, you might look better in a bikini, too.

I miss being able to exercise – I was never a gym fanatic by any means but I enjoyed a nice long walk – these days getting to the top of the stairs is a workout.
