The honeymoon is often seen as the part of the celebration that is just for the newlyweds to enjoy. There’s no better way to enjoy each others company than just after the commotion of planning and getting married. Of course, you will likely have an idea of where you would like to spend your honey, but have you thought about all the finer details? Whether you’re planning a trip abroad or are travelling nearby, you still need to plan ahead, you want to be prepared so you can spend the time enjoying every moment together.

When you plan your honeymoon, especially if close to the wedding will need to be booked in the maiden name of the person who is taking the others family name. In the eyes of customs, airlines and foreign affairs, you will still be seen as single.

This is especially important when it comes to booking your tickets and applying for Visa’s. Although you might be desperate to use your new married name you need to make sure your documents match your passport. You need to always make sure you have easy access to your marriage certificates, birth certificates, passports. Insurance information, booking confirmations and Visa’s. 

Location, Location, Location 

There’s no denying that when it comes to your honeymoon, the location is a critical part. It’s individual to you as a couple. It will determine your time of travel and whether you need a woolly hat or sunglasses. Your Visa, currency and documentation requirements will also vary dependent on the location that you choose.

It’s a good idea to sit down with your future husband or wife and discuss what you would both like from your honeymoon. Your location of choosing may determine what time of year you get married, especially if you’re planning your trip for just after the wedding day.  

Your Budget 

Talking about your finances and the budget you want to set may feel like an awkward topic but it should be something that you can easily discuss with your future spouse. You need to come to a decision about how much you are willing to spend on your honeymoon. Decide whether you’re going to do a budget getaway or go lavish and expensive. Are you going to be a couple who spends more on their big day or are you going save your funds for your celebration travels?

When thinking about your budget it’s essential that you also include things such as airport parking, transport, flight upgrades, your holiday clothing, toiletries and activities that you may want to do when you’re in your destination. Make sure you think about insurance requirements as you may need to budget more for activities such as paragliding, diving and safaris.
