Day Trip Vs A Birthday Party

In March Olivia is 11. 11! Every year except one she has had a party. That one year she was really struggling in school in her friendship group and it became obvious she was being slowly pushed out. It was really quite horrible to see. I decided I didn’t want to spend my money on a birthday party for kids who didn’t want to be her friend yet would expect an invite. Mean I know but I put the money aside to treat Olivia to a nice day out we wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford. We had a great day in Legoland Discovery Centre in the Trafford Centre. This got me thinking about having a day trip Vs a birthday party.

Reason being Olivia called me from her dad’s the other day with a little request. For this years birthday, she wants to visit Madame Tussauds in London. London! Not our usual visit to Blackpool. Regular readers will know of our love for Madame Tussauds Blackpool but we have yet to visit London. Why does she want to visit the London venue? To have her picture taken with none other than Zoella! Her new favourite person. She is obsessed with all things Zoella and received quite a few branded pieces for Christmas. Could we arrange a day trip to London to visit and would she benefit more from a day trip Vs a birthday party this year?

Olivia and I at the new I’m A Celebrity Feature in Madame Tussauds Blackpool.

I think it will be good for her and I’m excited to see if her dad and I can actually pull this off. With her birthday being midweek we would need to go on the weekend. The weekend before is a no go due to an Olly Murs concert and one of my sisters birthdays. The following weekend is Mothers day. But could we squeeze in a trip? Is it possible? I think it very well might be! While we are there, there may be time to squeeze in a trip on The London Eye with London Eye 2 for 1 tickets!

This has also got me thinking about all the other places in the UK we have yet to visit. Mostly due to no car and lack of funds. But we rarely venture outside of Manchester or Blackpool on our own so hitting London or anywhere else would be a whole new adventure for us. This could be a new challenge. Could we begin to replace birthday parties with day trips all around the UK? Why the heck not.

Day Trip Vs Birthday Party Bucket List.

Legoland Windsor.

We have visited Manchester so I think it’s only fair we pop the Windsor resort on our list isn’t it. Having seen quite a few bloggers visit and read their reviews and it looks like so much fun!

Alton Towers.

You have to visit at least once in your life don’t you! The last time I visited was a few months after Olivia was born and it was then I realised that rollercoasters just aren’t my thing anymore. But that doesn’t mean Olivia shouldn’t visit, does it?

Cadbury World

Do I even need to tell you why we both want to visit here! It’s Cadbury’s. It’s chocolate what else is there!?!?

Chester Zoo.

OK so this is a mere bus ride away for us, however, we haven’t visited in so long. We used to always go when we had a car but it’s been a good few years since our last trip and personally I (not too sure about Olivia) would love to go and see the new baby giraffe. Yes, I know it won’t be a baby for long so we need a visit asap!

Disneyland Paris.

Yes, I am aware this isn’t in the UK. However, we visited twice in 2009 and have never made it back. We currently can’t actually afford a stay there but…………….. I may have casually browsed the site and local airports one or twice (a month) to look for deals. Planned to perfection and with prior travel knowledge from previous flight times, I know it is totally possible to catch and early morning flight to Paris and then a transfer to Disney and be in the park for around 11am. This gives you a mere 5/6 hours in the parks but catching the latest possible flight home, you are able to catch the all important parade before flying home. A bit of a stretch I know but totally doable right?

I could go on and on about all the places we would love to visit but these are top of Olivia’s list of places she would love to visit. So wish us luck with our birthday trip planning and tell me, where would like to visit for your birthday if you could?

Chester Zoo can be the best option for us as well. My 6 year old son always wanted to go to the zoo, so this year we will be going to Chester Zoo for his birthday.
