Happy Aunties Day

It’s Mothers day soon, exactly 9 days after Olivia’s birthday. Honestly it gets harder and harder each year to buy things for my mum but this post isn’t about mums. It’s about Happy Aunties Day!

It’s about Olivia aunties, my fabulous sisters and this is how it all started.
When Olivia was 4, I took her to Tesco’s to get a last minute bunch of flowers for her to give to my mum, she picked a bunch with a princess balloon in as she wanted the balloon! But anyway I digress, she asked on the way why on Mother’s day do mums and nan’s get presents. Well nan’s are mums too, and nan’s help their children to bring up their grandchildren.
She accepted this for a few minutes then said, well don’t aunties help out too? Well yeah they do I answered. So do we have a happy aunties day then? Erm….. well no we don’t lovely no aunties day.
Again she pondered this.
So Auntie Nicky gets a mummy’s day present and so does Auntie Jenny, but what about JoJo (no auntie here she is just JoJo!). My youngest sister is yet to have children.

Can we do a Happy Aunties Day she asked innocently. Of course I said inwardly groaning about the extra cost! As if these things aren’t expensive enough! Talk about put on the spot but I supposed she was right in her child like innocence why can’t we have a Happy Aunties Day. They do so much for Olivia it would be nice.
I bought 3 perfume size gift bags, picked up 3 individual flowers and lots of sweets ie bags of haribo, candy necklaces and things. Olivia had lots of craft and card making things in the house so I let her make her own cards for them. It was a more personal that way.

When she gave them their presents they were so thrilled it was lovely to see and she was so happy knowing they liked them.

Since that first year we have carried on doing our little aunties days bags, but I have gotten much cleverer buying in cheaper stores earlier than the day before! The bags still cost around £5 each inc the bag and cards and still contain sweets. I  try to change the main present each year either flower, jewellery, hair accessories but whatever we get has to fit in the perfume size gift bag and we try to get them pretty much the same thing just a different design.

She still loves handing these out on Mother’s day and my sister’s love it as it is Olivia’s thing and they don’t do it for me but I don’t mind at all as it means it it is ours, something that just Olivia and I do and it keeps it that little bit more special.

What little things do you do as a family and special events or holidays you would like to share?

Spread the love
